I used to feel the same way... But I've just become so dejected and miserable about the Patriots as a whole: The arrogance, the controversy, the media bias, and the fact that theyve stood in the way of jets success for years. At this point it's not worth hootin and hollerin anymore. Our team is in direct position to shut their fans up and send their whole agenda to a crash. We just need to beat them. It's that simple.
I could have read the situation wrong. He'll never out right say anything negative about anyone, but something about the tone of it just struck me as incredible d-bag.
This is one of the main reasons why I hate the Pats* so much. The bandwagoners here in the midwest sicken me. Root for the team near to your own fucking hometown, assholes!
In fairness, JohnnyJohnson lives in New England, Abyzmul lives in Texas, and IgnatiusJReilly lives in California, and they're all pretty die-hard Jets fans. Bandwagoning is shitty, but you can't just automatically assume that everyone who isn't from Massachusetts hasn't been a Pats fan for longer than their run. Most are, but you can't just assume.
My best friend, born and raised and still in BedStuy Brooklyn has been a die hard Chiefs fan for as long as I can remember. It's odd an unexplainable. I agree with your point.
The first pro-NFL team I liked was the Raiders. (I know, I try not to talk about that period...) I used to get tons of crap, being from Queens. This was around the heyday of NWA, where people were rockin' the "Silver and Black" because the colors were popular. I would always get the "You're not really a Raiders fan. Name someone besides Bo Jackson on the team." Then I'd list some starters for them just to see the "Oh, my bad" look on their face. I'm a Yankees fan too. For years I had to hear BS that I jumped on the bandwagon, even though I was sitting in the upper deck of the Stadium when the only time they could sell out a game was on "Hat Day" or a day they were retiring a number.
My brother in law, born and raised on the Lower East Side, has been a Steelers fan since the age of 4 or 5. His dad tried to buy him a Jets jersey and the only jersey they had in his size at Modell's was a Steeler jersey. Not too surprising given that it was the 70s, but another odd match.
I've never ever been to New York. I was born in London, raised in Dallas. Nowhere near NY. But I've been a Jets fan since my childhood rooting for Al-Toon. We were a mediocre team back when I was a child and I've been a die hard Jets fan ever since. Am I bandwagoner?
LOL! I'm an Islander fan, which gets enough strange looks with people saying "I didn't know Black people like hockey!" Although my fanship started COMPLETELY jumping on the bandwagon, after they won their second Stanley Cup in the 80's. But I've stayed a fan since, even now when they completely suck ass (although because they suck, I've kinda lost interest in the sport altogether. And don't follow baseball or basketball, thus my sheer hatred of the offseason, other than combine/draft time).
I don't know how anyone can be a bandwagon Jets fan. There is not much to hang your hat on the last 40 years or so.
One of my best friends is Chinese, and also the most knowledgeable hockey fan I know. Growing up, when Jim Paek came into the league people always asked him why he wasn't a Penguins fan. His response was always "Because I'm not Korean?"
Haha. We do have some odd stories here. More than half of the Jets games I've been to have been outside of New York. My dad was the adopted product of an adulterous WWII relationship (mom got with another man while her husband was serving), born in New York, but was never a fan of the NFL. I was always obsessed with New York because of my dad's strange story, even though we lived in California for the most part. Went to a Jets game when I was 8 or 9 and decided that was my team. I'll always be insanely jealous of the people who even have an opportunity to buy season tickets, since most of the games I watch are on TV.
Actually, I hope Rex laughs Bills comments off and does exactly what he said he would do to every team, "come at them a million mph on every play". My bet is that Bill is praying Rex tries something cute and doesn't give him "the Ravens Defense". Because chances are that if the same D shows up on Sunday as last Sunday, Brady is in trouble.
Belichik was nothing but complementary to the Jets D. I posted the audio link, but I guess it's more fun to believe he's dissing the Jets. If BB had really said something that even slightly sounds like a put-down the Post would've had it splattered all over the sports section.
I agree about the Phins. I'm still pissed ASShula couldn't cover the field in the 1983 AFC Championship game
