The guy he reminds me a bit of is Curtis Martin. He's not at that level but he has a similar skill set right down to his ability to get to the ground after contact without getting hurt or giving the ball up. He's not a star caliber player but he's definitely a decent back that you can use in a bunch of different ways to help the offense.
Well I'll play devil's advocate here for a minute. I love Rex and hope he stays with us long term but one fault he has IMHO is bringing guys back too early after an injury. It's not Greene's fault if the organization he plays for is so inept that adequate depth at his position is lacking. I'd rather see a player on my team take an extra week off if he felt he was less than 90% ready instead of having him come back dinged up and more likely to incur further injury because of it.
Agree that Powell has been a nice surprise. However this doesn't mean we don't need a RB in the draft. The priority in this draft has to be offensive playmakers - both RB and WR. Powell would make a nice change of pace back to a more athletic explosive counterpart.
I don't think he holds up under a 400 carry a year pace. Nobody does. He's probably good for 15 carries a game with a few 20-25 carry games in the mix. He is getting better as the game goes along though. Maybe the Jets should hand him the rock for attempts 11-20 next week and see what happens. Powell is averaging 3.4 yards per attempt on carries 1-10 this year and 5.9 on carries 11-20. That could easily be the Jets deciding to run more against bad run defenses though.
I like Bilal and think he has plenty of upside and this year has been a lone spark in our backfield. I'm still out on him though. Unless you're a talent like LT or Curtis you need a good supporting cast, which at the moment we don't have. Goodson -out. Ivory , just can't stay healthy which adds to more pressure on BP. I've said this before (sorry) but our best HB at the end of pre-season was Khalil Bell who is now a FA. Instead we now have Alex Green, wtf? Bell, to me looked way better than Powell, but what do I know.
