Are we the Bills? Drafting Sammy Watkins while we have EJ Manuel as our QB?

Draft a freaking QB! It's all about the QB. Receivers are available - by draft, by trade, in free agency. Anybody know who T.Y. Hilton was before Luck made him into a star? Heck, we paid big money for Eric Decker to prove to us just how much the QB makes the receiver.

seriously, does nobody else here but me want an offensive tackle?

I want to build the trenches back up, give a QB some protection and find a may to move on from the declining and more expensive D'brick. Its its as important as a getting a QB in my book, we want our guy to be kept upright and for the future of the line to be secure right?

start from the trenches, unless you think the QB is just that damn obvious. Mariota's the only guy that I could see being that obvious pick. Winston's got enough red flags maturity wise that the safer move would be to get get Ogbuehi or somebody else.

the other QB's… well it depends on where we are in the draft.

I guess so. While LT is very important, if the Jets get a chance to draft Mariota, they'd be idiots to pass him by for an LT, unless there's an LT who they think is a sure-fire NFL HOFer waiting to happen. The Carolina Panthers found their LT as an UDFA start him for a year at RT then move him to LT and he's playing well, I believe. QB is THE most important position on the team. I never thought I'd wind up saying it, but Geno sucks and is not the answer. They have to find a QB.

My only caveat is if Idzik and Rex are still with the team next year. I don't want Idzik picking that QB or Rex coaching/handling (really mishandling) him. If Idzik and Rex are still with the team, it won't matter if they draft a QB with the potential to be the next Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Manning, Mornhinweg and Rex will screw him up. If they're both still around, Woody might as well fold the franchise.

It kind of depends a little bit. If in week 17 it's obvious we are going to have a top 5 pick, it might be desirable for Mike Nolan to come here and draft Mariota. If that were too happen, I wouldn't be opposed to Dennis Thurmon staying as defensive coordinator. He may take the same route as Pettine, and want to show his skills as a coordinator not under Rex in hopes of a future head coaching opportunity. Then again at this rate there is probably a chance Rex may not get another head coaching job right away. I tend to think he will but who knows.

If it's clear we won't have such a high pick, I wouldn't reach for a QB and I'd be ok with taking an offensive lineman.

We have enough cap space, if used wisely, to address a lot of holes in FA prior to the draft and be in position to move up, if we have to, and get the QB we target. The SEA model is not looking as "sustainable" as originally thought. I'm now with Stokes/Accorsi model of securing your franchise QB first, then worry about everything else after.

Is it weird that the first thing this mindset makes me think of is the RG3 situation? they traded LOADS to go get their guy… and their O-line was incomplete and their QB wound up hurt.

Okay maybe RG3's injury isn't related to the O-line, but despite going big and getting a highly touted QB (and another QB thought be a steal in the later rounds before he wasn't) their woes weren't completely fixed. just as well not being able to get some first rounders as a result of that trade plays a role in their being set back a bit.

Even the go for broke trade up for your franchise QB model has its drawbacks is all I'm saying. it looks great at first but giving up a lot for a chance at a good QB can bite us in the ass, and actually in a strange catch 22 doing so might not help your franchise man out in the end either.

I don't think we should forsake other positions to get a great QB, I know we desperately we want and need one, but theres a possibility that even making that effort can go south, go for the best man available regardless of position.

We won't need to trade up for the QB we want. There are currently 7 teams in the running for the #1 pick (2 wins or less right now).

Raiders - Not drafting a QB
    Jets - Need a QB
Bucs - 50/50 but if they pick one it will be Winston. Winston in Tampa would mean HUGE $$$$$ for the Glazers.
Rams - 50/50 - Wouldn't be shocked if they stick with Davis
    Titans - Need a QB
Jags - Not drafting a QB
Falcons - Not drafting a QB

The Jets vs. Titans game will most likely decide who gets Mariota.

Jet fans (including myself) also need to accept that Amari Cooper will be the #1 pick in the draft to the Oakland Raiders too.

I think there might be more QB needy teams than people think. I think there's a very reasonable chance that the rams, Buccaneers and Titans all take first round QB's, or at least would if there are enough guys considered good enough to be taken that high. W just have no idea where we're going to be picking, so it's almost not worth making predictions yet. I know no one is excited about the remainder of the season but we have to see what happens.

If the Jets are going to make a big trade for a QB next year it should be to the Falcons for Matt Ryan. The Falcons are now 6-18 since they signed Ryan to the huge contract in the summer of 2013. He's got a huge cap hit for them next year if they make the trade with $33M of dead money involved but his cap hit if he stays on the team is $19.5M and they have the space to absorb the hit.

Is he a franchise QB? Well, he's certainly not the Falcons franchise QB. No franchise QB leads his team to 6-18 over a season and a half.

Neither. I trade down and get two good offensive linemen. Not the top rated left tackle who often times isn't up to his billing. But two good players to rebuild our OL. The last time we did it Tanny drafted Brick and Mangold and that was a major reason for the teams short-lived success. I'd use some of the cap money to sign a free agent vet Qb like a Matt Moore. That is unless Vick plays well and stays healthy.

You have to make your own luck and unless Luck is there it's hard to do that drafting another yahoo at QB after all the ones we've picked since Chad. I mean you could get lucky on the pick but if the Jets draft Winston you just know he'll be doing Life without Parole before all is said and done. Not that I think Winston is a criminal, because I don't, but if we took him...

    Fuck Winston.

Either trade for a guy like Matt Ryan, which I think will never happen simply because Atlanta just wouldn't get rid of him, or draft Mariota.

The falcons aren't trading Ryan for shit.

Is he a franchise QB? hes a top 10 QB in this league, the kind of QB you don't let go if you have half a brain.

6-18. Let's see how the Falcons finish but man they have blown chunks since they decided to make Ryan the 2nd best paid QB on the planet in July of 2013. If your guy is *the* guy there is no way that he plays 24 games for you and you lose 18 of them.

What's the #1 job of a QB? Win games.
