    This is rational thinking.

Irrational thinking is "what good is a QB if he has no one to throw to".

"when challenged by his coach at Saint Louis School in Honolulu either to be more vocal with his teammates or to run sprints, Mariota chose sprints". The way I heard that story before is that the coach said that he had to yell at one teammate at practice today or else he would have to run sprints and Marcus just went ahead and ran the sprints without even answering.

He's not the type of player that gets ruined. He has things in perspective.

Let's start with I'm "with" the guys who say we need to draft a QB EARLY next year. Let's get that out of the way first...most important position on the team.

Having said that, I have an idea of who I would pick...I have soured on football, in general, thanks to our beloved "JESTS" and can't even bring myself to watch college ball. I can only go on what I read.

Based, PURELY, off of that I would have to go with the Ducks QB. The article, posted above, kind of puts the whole question of the young man at an oxymoronic level. They start off by saying "he's too cool" of a customer but follow that up with "he has a desire to be great." Which is it?

Winston, judging from what I've read, is an immature head case. Fraud, rape allegations, shoplifting...etc...etc... A guy like Bo Jackson reaches out and you flippantly "ignore" his advice... Yeah, the New York Fuckin' Clowns..er...Jets really need an ass clown like this. Pfffttt... He'd spend more time on suspension and/or in jail than he would on the field. Of course, this is EXACTLY the very Woody Johnson thing to do. This kid would be eaten up and spit out half dead by a town like New York. The ONLY place for a guy like this is in Minnesota or Green Bay where it's too cold to get into trouble...actually, from my point of view, he doesn't belong in the NFL at this point until he can prove he's matured and the numerous violations are a thing of the past as opposed to an indicator of the future. I smell Jamarcus Russell all over this kid! Thank god for the new CBA that doesn't allow these useless players to get paid anymore out the gate.

Regardless of money, though, we cannot afford to shit the bed in 2015's draft. We MUST draft an impact offensive player and there is no greater impact than the QB.

Sounds like a guy that leads by example. Nothing wrong with that. I would rather prefer a veteran this off-season to come in and be a starter, Jets should still draft a QB the next 2 seasons. I still want Cooper in Green.

This guy definitely intrigues me, especially after reading this quote:
That being said, though I don't know much about him, his decision making does concern me. If he's not asked to throw beyond his first read or find the open man in a pro-style offense, his transition to the NFL might be difficult. We need the right OC and HC in place if we want Mariota to become our franchise Qb.

But the Golden Boy is the best herald QB prospect in years! The guy is a sure-fire franchise QB! Mariota most definitely needs to sit for a year and develop. He's boom or bust QB at this juncture. Doesn't go through reads, questionable footwork under center, no experience in a pro offense - you can't find any proof that he does all of that. But man with that athleticism and arm, you can't pass that up

Maybe you bring in Jim Harbaugh and his coaching staff and maybe he thrives, but even so Kaep had to sit for years before he was ready. Kaep was highly regarded also.

If he's there when we pick, what do you do? Do you pass because he "…doesn't go through reads, questionable footwork under center, no experience in a pro offense", can't "sit for a year and develop" and/or we don't have "Jim Harbaugh and his coaching staff"? Also, what is your definition of a bust, are we talking about a Sanchez type bust or Ryan Leaf/Jarmarcus Russell type?

Smart advice. How can you be sure your QB rookie will be a jimmie Garropolo (really dumb not getting him....another Romo) so I agree we need a solid vet and have a drafted QB sit and learn.

If I have the #1 overall pick, then I would take Mariota - but I WILL sit him on the bench for a season. I'll acquire a veteran QB that can run the offense until I feel Mariota is ready to play. Call it the Aaron Rodgers treatment. Mariota is just too raw to throw out in the fire, he won't perform. If I feel I need results right away (per your scenario I believe), then Mariota isn't getting drafted by me at #1, I would try and trade the pick and acquire the best available player at the spot I traded down to.

Sanchez in my eyes wasn't a bust, Jets screwed him over because they didn't have a developmental plan for him. He didn't put up great #s, but I didn't really care about his #s because he showed the ability to step up and help the team win. Ryan Leak and JaMarcus Russell are absolutely busts - they contributed nothing at all.
