No you are not. There's no big money involved and you and I watched completely different players back at WVU.

But of most importance is that Mariota from all accounts is incredibly intelligent and Geno was and always will be stupid.

If Geno had a high football IQ and could tighten up his release, he might have been a player. The release you can fix.

    You can't fix stupid.

Just you watch. We're going to resign him in 2 years. And he'll room with John Conner in trying camp.

Again some of you want to tie us up with some guy whose great in college but probably won't be a franchise Qb. I think the Jets need someone who can win now and you don't have to devote 3 years developing him and he might not ever fit in. You can definitely win without a franchise Qb. And you can definitely lose trying to develop one. I wouldn't trade for RG3.

I'm aware of it, but I am not sold on him right now fulfilling that potential or the coaching staff developing him. It's definitely there though. If the Jets feel they can accomplish this then they should def draft him.

You get Gus Malzahn, Mariota and well I think you got something to look forward to IMO. Love Auburn's offense, if Gus could make it work in the NFL - Mariota will be the main beneficiary of it.

Mariota is unproven and he isn't the can't miss prospect that Luck was to even believe what you're saying. He's a project. In college Geno was the better pocket passer.

You can keep repeating that but it's not going to make it any truer.

    Truly something to aspire to.

You've been a Jet fan too long.

    Don't you dream of one day having a 12-4 season? 13-3? 14-2?

You're right. Lets find a vet journeyman game manager win now guy. Left Tackle at the third pick and we are SET.

That's the thing. There is no amount of development that is ever going to make Geno or Daulton or RG3 or Tannehill or Manuel or Hoyer or Davis or Glennon or the like an elite QB.

Can Mariota be elite? Who knows?

But you know. He's got a shot. You said it so yourself.

If we have the #2 or #3 overall, I'll be excited to welcome Mariota, because that's a smart move.
If we have the #2 or #3 overall and can trade down and turn that into 4 or 5 picks in the first two rounds (counting our existing second rounder) I say we do that----wait!!!!!

Stokes IS right. IsDick will pick a bunch of guys then cut them so they can play for other teams. If we keep IsDick at GM, I'm on board with suck for the Duck. If we get a real GM, I say we trade down and draft at least 12 Guards and Tackles.

I still don't understand how his contract was putting all their eggs in one basket. Was Sanchez making Peyton money and I missed it?

They committed themselves to Mark. No competition or viable backup for years. No accountability. Even his teammates said he was spoiled. A big mistake.

2 out of 4 years of doing that resulted in being a game away from the Super Bowl. How is that exactly was that "A big mistake"?

Any team would love to have a franchise Qb but the odds of getting one are remote. You have to go forward and build a complete team not just the Qb position. I don't believe in losing games for several years in the hopes of developing a franchise Qb. You should win now. If you're lucky enough to find one than great. But you can't cripple your team in the process. Start with the O-line and go from there.

Mark wasn't the key reason the Jets went to the AFC Championship and we lost both games. Esp in 2009 when they won in spite of him.

Even if the above were true, please explain why it was "A big mistake".

Because Mark was treated like a franchise Qb and he proved he wasn't even going to be their long time starter. Chad Pennington proved to be a lot more reliable and a better Jets Qb. Even though some Jets fans called him noodle arm.

Mark was never an 8 to 15 mil per year Qb. He could be a 4 to 6 guy because at best he's an adequate game manager. I don't think he can run the Eagles offense on a consistent basis. They did go back to the running game more last week and he had a good game. In retrospect the Jets should have done it, too. Mark isn't a full service Qb which means he isn't a franchise Qb. Which is what the Jets expected out of him. And there was your mistake.
