"Being tentative in this team business is never good and the rest of the OFF needs to get used to this kid's style of play." That is a great point. What are the Jets afraid of?? Not winning the Super Bowl? We have done that for 40 years. Let him grow.
If that is the case and you think he will lose two games extra the would you not ratehr have him in there because... 1. He will have the reigns next year without a doubt. 2. This will accelerate his learning curve and hopefully have us more competitive next season 3. In a season where were are surely not to make the playoffs, would you not rather losing two more games and picking 7-10 spots higher in the draft?
I'm not quite as ready as you are to give up on playoff hopes just yet. Stranger things have happened. If we declare Sanchez the starting QB immediately (I am saying this week) and get the offense more used to this kid's style in the remaining weeks, there is still some time for the offense to gell somewhat. If the O-line gets healthy and can give him good protection and he generates more chemistry with Stuckey, Cotchery, Clowney, Leon, Keller, etc., that's all a huge plus and a confidence-builder for Sanchez. Success could breed success with this kid, he just looks like that kind of player. Also, if our defense is going to be as kick-ass aggressive as Ryan claims they will be and can get the job done consistently without too many injuries, that's a huge factor also. Could Sanchez get us to 10-6 and squeek into the playoffs? Stranger things have happened.
We're not already hoping to lose games to move up in the draft, are we? The season hasn't even started and the draft is a total crapshoot.
If Sanchez is playing better than Clemens, which he is, then he should start. The best learning for him will come on the field; I don't understand the 'learn from the sidelines' strategy.
Nope we WERE not surely to miss the playoffs but that is certainly the vibe that was insinuated through his post. It was a message that a hopless season is upon irrespective of who is at the helm. If that were true, he should be rooting for the future to start now rather than next year. An added bonus to Sanchez getting his experience this year would be a higher draft pick by his logic. Crack intake is just fine, has not made me delusional to the point of thinking 12-4 is realistic.
See, if I smoke crack on an empty stomach I get all kinds of fucked up. It's actually helpful when the Knicks are playing, gets me through the season.
Aikman went 0-15 his first year and Peyton went 3-13. I say throw him in andlet him learn playing the game. Even if he doesn't do great he will be better for it. Flacco who the annoucers seemed to love went only 14 TD and 12 Int last season, not much to gush about. Give Sanchez the ball and the backing to be the guy from day one!
I support Clemens starting the entire season. Sanchez is still not ready for real nfl action and Clemens could possibly take us far.
Clemens will not win a SB and that is the whole point of the game. Sanchez may not win us one this year but the playing time this year will help him next year when Clemens is a small afterthought. Clemens is a underachieving scrub who will be lucky to cling onto another tean as a #3.
I wish my stepson were worthwhile, but alas, he is not. So talking to Lordfavre this way is an afterthought. I mean, come on. "Clemens could possibly take us far?" This guy joins in August of 2009 as LordFavre and expects to be taken seriously? Nine interceptions in the last five games from Lord Favre.
Sanchez starts opening day! There is no other option IMO. What if Clemens starts opening day and plays decent football and the Jets over around 500 for an entire season? Do you think Clemens would be benched if the Jets are within a game of 500 all year? I don't think so. If that happens we have an ok season and while Sanchez learns on the bench it still doesn't give him NFL experience. It would almost be like next year being another rookie season.
