Chad Pennington 2002 Vs Colts 19-25 222 yards 3 TD's 0 INT's Vs Raiders 21-47 183 yards 1 TD 2 INT's 2004 Vs Chargers 23-33 279 yards 2 TD's 0 INT's Vs Steelers 21-33 182 yards 0 TD's 1 int 2006 Vs Patriots 23-40 300 yards 1 TD 1 int
I love Chad, one of my all time favorites but I asked you to show me better not worse. #s don't tell all but give us a gauge. Chad: 2-3 record, 107-178, 1166 yds, 7 TDs, 4 INTs, led O to 14.4 PPG Mark: 4-2 record, 95-157, 1155 yds, 9 TDs, 3 INTs, led O to 20 PPG more TDs, less INTs, more pts scored fro, his O, more wins, less losses.
I know we had some great scoring years but I don't think we had too many. it sucks he wasn't durable.
The points per game were roughly the same a point differential higher for Chad. The performances in those games sans maybe the Raider game were good. Sanchez had 2 games where I watched him play and thought that he passed the eye test (vs Bengals vs Patriots)
what are you talking about? we scored almost a TD more per game w/ Mark. mark didn't have a single bad playoff game, the closest was at Indy 2010 WC but he led the GW drive in the final minute to set up his K for a chip shot. again, I love Chad and I won't blame him but he led our O to 3 pts at Pitt and threw an INT for TD at NE that sealed a once close game.
20.0 pts per game vs 20.8 pts per game. I didn't say Mark had a bad game I said he only had 2 games where he passed the eye test. His other games were average at best. Chad had 4 games where he passed the eye test and the stats backed up what I was watching. His only bad playoff game was against the Raiders.
It was 20 PPG to 18 PPG(17.4 in regulation, I made a mistake) Mark: 24 at Cincy, 17 at SD, 17 at Indy, 17 at Indy, 28 at NE, 17 at Pitt Chad: 41 vs. Indy, 10 at Oak, 20 at SD(OT), 3 at Pitt(OT), 16 at NE Mark passed the eye test in every postseason game. what 4 games were those? Chad had 2 good postseason games- vs. Indy and at SD. at oak he led us to 10 pts at Pitt he led us to 3 pts at NE led us to 16 which is ok but threw a pick 6 late where were these 4 games? either way Mark was better
at Pitt he led our O to THREE points at NE he threw a pick 6 and we lost by 21 pts. He had good #s as far as yardage goes but he did not have a good game. if I was ranking best to worse in tewrms of postseason performance: 1. Mark at NE '10 2. Chad vs. Indy '02 3. Mark at Cin '09 4. Chad at SD '04 5. Mark at SD '09 6. Mark at Indy '10 7. Mark at Pitt '10 8. Mark at Indy'09 9. Chad at Pitt '04 10. Chad at NE '06 11. Chad at Oak '02
Come one, the more wins less losses is really unfair to use. Chad lost a game where his FG kicker missed a last second kick (and then GW kick in OT) and Mark won a game where his FG kicker made the last second kick. And on top of that, Mark's HC let them try to give the kicker an easier shot and Chad's coach didn't. I would say if we take everything into account, their postseason play is equal with Sanchez having the slight edge just due to the "improbable" victory against NE and what it meant at the time. Sanchez was on the stronger teams and faced in my opinion weaker defenses/teams, but he also took advantage and played well. Chad on the 2009/2010 Jets if he could remain healthy would have looked a better than his average playoff play and in my mind was playing with worse overall things around him. Either way, I still think Namath takes it as best Jets QB. If Pennington remained healthy I think he could have had a chance at it, but unfortunately he couldn't.
the K did cost that game BUT Chad led the O to 3 pts that day. he was playing w/ a torn rotator cuff but those are the breaks. those '02/'04 Jet teams were really strong. I actually think they were better overall than the '09/'10 teams. Again, Chad might be my all time favorite but I have to be fair.
The 02/04 teams weren't bad, but the 2009 and 2010 Jets teams were more talented or maybe the better wording is the coaches brought the most out of the talent those years compared to 2002/2004. A young Chad joining Rex in 2009, oh boy the perfect match. But of course, the times never line up perfectly for the Jets.
hey the guy was throwing to a couple guys who were 5'9" and 170 lbs. it was a flawed philosophy and a flawed system. they would go over the middle, they would get BLASTED and then they wouldnt go over the middle the same anymore. he was always on point, his receivers not so much, i felt they absolutely shriveled up when the heat was on.
I still think the 3 game stretch at the end of the 2002 season was the best stretch I've ever experienced from an entertainment stand point and best I've ever seen a Jet QB play. Beat the Pats in NE with Chad throwing for 3 TDs 0 INTs and 285 yards, crushing Favre and GB just as NE was beating Miami to lock us into the playoffs (remember walking through the parking lot to the Stadium as the radios blasted the news that we were in) with Chad throwing for 4 TDs 0 INTs and then destroying the Colts in and Manning in the playoffs 41-0 with Chad throwing 3 more TDs and no INTs. The GB and Colt game fans were literally hugging each other in the stands. Was incredible. What a stretch. _
You want to say rex was better than Herm? sure but we had better teams in those early 00s years. Chad had Coles, Chrebet and Moss in 2002 handing off to Curtis Martin and throwing to Richie Anderson. That's pretty damn good. Our Ds were very underrated in those years too. The problem was the Pats were at the peak of their dynasty. I agree w/ you and that GB is still my favorite home game of all time. The Colts game the next week felt like a continuation of the GB game. we had a shot in oak and blew it. we beat tom Brady, Brett favre and Peyton Manning led teams by an average of 26 PPG. Amazing.
That walk through the parking lot on our way to our seats for GB, when the Phin game became a final and we were in the playoffs, there was a cheer as loud and as long as any I've ever heard. That game was like one long party-complete strangers high fiving each other in the lot and in the stands. And you know what you're right, never thought of it like that but the Colt game the next week DID feel like a continuation of the GB game. _
I have told my story from that day many times on this board. the range of emotions from walking in thinking we were done to watching it n my handheld TV and the building roaring when the pats kicked that FG. what a day
