No MM isn't Bill Walsh and it will be interesting to see what kind of O he comes out with. If we have the incumbent QBs all still on roster come game 1, we won't be going downfield much at all anyway. Take out last season which was just a train wreck as far as MS's career went, before that he was fairly decent in short range. I guess we see what we want to see.
Have no worries, drafting unproven talent is a Tanny move. Idzik is far too shrewd to make such an uncalculated risk.
Sanchez will be here for the 2013 season bet on it. the best moment for his release is after the season, Idzik isn't gonna take a dent like that just to be rid of an inconsistent player that can be benched for cheaper effect. if he wasn't gonna do it for harris, he won't do it for mark, it makes no sense he'd have nothing left money wise, and we'd still need to acquire . Mark should do a little better in this system but I don't think he gets the start. not immediately anyway. G-Mac might have a decent time in this if only because it will force him to throw the ball quicker. I expect good results form him in this new situation, but not the start tebow is gone unless all other QBs are too high priced, the jets decide to focus everywhere else in the draft, marty sees even a twinkle of possibility and herbs are passed between departments. if he was here his throwing motion seems ill advised for something quick and accurate. Garrard will probably win it, he has the best overall precision of the bunch, and I don't think health will be too big an issue. a draftee(it won't be geno they won't trade up for him) will get a shot but will still need grooming. a pet project at best. If the season goes awry with either Sanchez or david at the helm i think you might see a push to use that rookie though.
Not even close. Sanchez is the most physically talented, and his flaw is decision making, which the system mitigates. Sanchez, by a mile, Gararrd will push him, but in football terms hes old, but not so old that Simms, and more particularly McElroy should be preparing resumees.
Geno sucks. Makes Sanchez look like a heakthy Joe Namath. Mayock showed cut ups of him that were painful to watch...20 yard sideline throws that landed behind the bench...really?
Hobbes thinks Sanchez is the best QB on the team! Who's Surprised!? .... will the smartass in the back kindly put his hand down... By a mile? really? I mean I think he can get better, and he's not naturally as abysmal as he seems, but its hardly as sure a thing as you're making it. Really i'd say G-mac can benefit more off this than mark can.
Arm strength, you can grow. (Provided you don't tear up your shoulder like Pennington did.) Brain? You can't fix stupid. Yes. That means Nacho should go.
.....NO! McElroy has no arm power and you can bet on MM going deep its what he loves to do. Now tell me how a QB with no arm strength and a Off. coordinator will favor with each other ? Mark has a arm but no accuracy. Garrard had an arm with decent accuracy(but injury history and is old) it will be a battle between Sanchez and David... a simple as that.
Which is what I said. Sanchez will win in the end, becaus his inaccuracy, is more a fiction of the NY media, than the film..,especially inside the numbers, Take away his decision making.,,you will get the TWO throws a game, that put him over 60 pct. I guess simple math, is too hard,
maybe Garrad, he apparently was slated to start last year. And look before you give me a highly detailed argument over how Sanchez just needs this right coach to be successful and David's form is vastly inferior due to age or whatever, all I'm saying is its not as wide a gap as you make it seem. He may well be shot mentally, and isn't FAR AND AWAY the best on the team. He can be good, but he's not an instant go to guy or clear winner. he can do it but it won't be by much.
Ok I agree with you McElroy's are sucks. That said its not the deep ball that is the issue. It's the intermediate routes where arm strength really matters. Those 10 to 20 yard throws where your squeezing the ball into tight windows is where your arm strength shines. The deep ball is more a matter of trajectory and location (accuracy). Throw deep is not about out throwing the defense, it's about placing the ball where only the receiver can get it and so that he can catch it without breaking stride. The reason McElroy is not fit to run the WCO is while he is smart and accurate, defensive backs would love to sit back and wait for him to throw a crossing route 10 yards deep and break on his throws that don't get to the receiver near quickly enough.
fair assessment. Wonder what the over/under on Sanchez pick 6's will be on horizontal routes. Late decision making, stare downs, and avg arm strength will also have defenders sitting back and waiting for it. I don't think McElroy or Sanchez should or will be the starter this year.
I think McElroy could be better than people give him credit for but he wont get a chance to prove it unfortunately.
In a way that kind of defeats the purpose of the system itself doesn't it? I mean no matter who plays they'll be waiting in the wings to make their stop. I think in this case the smartest, most accurate QB is whats needed. I think garrard or G-Mac have that, even if the latter lacks arm strength. The best thing this can do for him is get the ball out of his hands quicker. hes a smart decision maker unlike mark at times, he just has to let go of the ball faster. I really hope he's involved if only because I think I can see potential success in him in that regard.
I used live in Jacksonville and have watched Garrard play a lot. Accuracy is not his forte he is average accuracy at best. His strength as a QB was being Conservative and making smart decision he cannot fit the ball into tight windows. Remember he was handing the ball off to MDJ and Fred Taylor. He is a decent game manager that does well of of play action and running when the play breaks down.
lack of arm strength definitely brings up a ton of issues. i think you are right about the intermediate routes suffering the most, especially with the recovery time and speed of the db's, a 15 yard curl becomes a pick-6 risk every time. getting it out quicker, like others are suggesting, will not help this issue because unlike timing, where the db reads the receiver and jumps the route, he is seeing the ball and reacting to where it is going. if the qb cant zip the ball in there both hard and on time, then problems will persist. (see mark throwing a lot of interceptions on bad routes etc.) it hurts the deep ball in the same way unfortunately. while it is true that the idea is not to simply throw it past the defense, you also cannot have the ball floating downfield as to give the safety enough time to move to the ball. while its possible to hit the deep ball with a weak arm because of what you said, lack of arm strength will still limit the offenses ability to go deep with regularity by allowing the safeties to sit back and cover more ground.
