Yeah, these past two road games reminded me of those two, obviously a lot more time in between, but probably better quality of opponents. Still, road wins are where it's at. Chris Chandler, that was him. Thanks.
The '98 team also lost to a very young and bad Colts team towards the end of the season. Although coaching counts for an awful lot, talent-wise we're better.
Best since 98 easily. I wasn't around for 68 but I've been a Jets fan since the early 80s and I don't ever remember being more confident in a Jets team than I am right now. Even though we've had better records at this point in the season before, when have we ever been so dominant on both the O and D line? Plus the whole attitude of this team just seems different than ever before. Of course the rest of the season is going to tell the whole story, but if they continue playing this way I think they could certainly be the best I've ever seen. :jets:
That Colts team a year later won 13 games. This year's Jet team lost to an awful Raider team(a team much worse than that Colt team) and a medicore SD team.
The Rams team that beat us in 1998 went on to win the Super Bowl the next year and appear in it the year after that.
And thank God we did. Both games have been crucial to our team forming its identity and our current success. Every member of this team has been quoted as saying that Oakland game was a blessing in disguise. Also, don't forget that Oakland beat up on the Broncos yesterday.
Could be, except for the bad start. Most of the core was two years younger, we had Vinny behind Chad instead of Quincy Carter and John Hall instead of Doug Brien, either of which might have saved us in 2004.
The 98 team was always "clutch". That defense could be nasty at times. I loved when Bellicheck use to start the game in the booth, an then come onto the field. Some other things I remember about the team that stood out other than the obvious..... Whipping The Deberg/graziani led Falcons Dedric ward Fly patterns Beating KC in a monsoon Vinny's QB Sneak TD against the Seahawks The Last game of The Season vs. Pats wrapping up the 2 seed, right before New Years. One of the most fun I have ever had at a game.
They all said that? That's what losers say, they would have learned as much betaing them as they did losing to them expect we'd be 9-2 now and a great chance for the top seed. The Broncos aren't very good, I'm not impressed that another team played poorly against that awful raider team.
Yeah, around that time the Jets and Giants were about like they are now, with people talking Super Bowl. Then we started getting everyone hurt, I remember Gastineau and Klecko on one play. Reggie McElroy at OT, a bunch of guys. We still came as close as we ever did to an all NY Super bowl.
Losers would probably also say that they are "very good when healthy" ... Seriously if I have one loss to give out other than the first NE game or the SD game, there is NO other team I would rather lose to on our schedule than the Raiders. I would much rather beat the quality teams and lose to crappy ones. I seem to recall that it is the good teams and not the crappy teams that you have to face in the playoffs. You would probably have rather had a good win against OAK and a "good" loss to TEN. So we probably won't have homefield advantage against the Titans. So what? We just used them to wipe our asses all over their field...
Last I checked we weren't favored to win the Tennesse game... Are you ever going to realize how little that Oakland game matters? I mean damn we have racked up 5 straight wins since that game and you keep worrying about the Oakland game. I'm not saying that it doesn't suck in hindsight a little, I'm just saying that wins @BUF, @NE, and @TEN outway the Oakland loss by SO MUCH its not even funny.
Yes, obviously a win is better than a loss, and Oakland was a team we should have beaten. Had we not lost to Oakland, however, I'm not sure we roll off quite the same stretch of wins. That loss lit a fire under our team and exposed serious problems. At that point, we were still trying to figure out how to incorporate Favre into our offense in a way that emphasized both his skills and the needs of the team. Did you forget the entire first series run out of the spread? It's no coincidence that Favre has consistently improved since that game. Every aspect of our team has improved since that game, and every player references it as a turning point. If our team squeaks out a win in that game, I'm not sure we make the wholesale changes or commitment that leads to our current 5 game streak.
Woulda, coulda, shoulda. Forget the past, lets focus on the present. The Oakland loss does not define this team.
The 2002 Jets had their best offensive line probably since the late 1960's after they got Dave Szott back from his TC injury: Fabini, Szott, Mawae, Thomas, McKenzie. It just doesn't get better than that for the Jets and they wiped the floor with Green Bay and Indy to prove it.
Right now this is the Jets best team since 98 but if they don't get to the AFC Champ game at the very least it will be a disappointment.
