They hadn't updated all of the opponents records yet, it showed the Jets as having beat a team with an 0-0 record against other teams.
Not sure why all the discussion in this thread has focused on the Patriots. The real absurdity is suggesting that PITTSBURGH may be one of the top two teams in the AFC. They might not even make my top five. They got embarrassed by Baltimore and then, on their home field, smoked a Seahawk team fielding an offense run by Tavaris Jackson. Yeah, THAT Tavaris Jackson.
Didn't the Chargers have the #1 ranked defense in the NFL last season? The Patriots just lit them up for 500 yds and 35 points. So, apparently they can beat up on real defenses.
They did the same thing to the steelers and jets once last year as well. Certain teams figured out the offense but not many and it wasn't often the Pats scored under 30 points. Jets will be the biggest test of the season, and probably the best team that New England will play this season. It should be the biggest test for both teams and could determine the outcome of the AFCE.
The chargers D ranking last year was a product of them having the easiest schedule in football, they play in the AFC west, and they played the AFC south and NFC west. recipe for a season long session of stat padding.
...that and the fact that yardage statistics are garbage when it comes to ranking the quality of a team
Sounds like this will drastically improve our chances of winning the division If we play @ NE when its warm out without one of their stud TEs playing (giving us a significantly better chance of winning there) this very well significantly increases our chances of sweeping them this season and actually getting our god damn bye week/home field playoff advantage. By no means does this make it a lock or even probable that well sweep them, but the fact that @ Pats is occurring early in the year and directly after they travel to Oakland stacked with this, suddenly makes things look very good for us. And if Mangold can manage to get back for that game (which he very well should) then the odds are simply favoring us
So, if they're just left with the two Gronk brothers, all they have left is, like, twelve All-Pro tight-ends.
Idk about "drastically" but yeah it would definitely hurt. Hernandez only accounts for about one-sixth of our passing production so far (yardage) and one-quarter (TDs). Seeing as NE hasn't told the media anything, I kind of wonder how any one report is supposed to have more validity than the other.
Well if we can get the win @NE out of the way then the division pretty much comes down to beating the Pats @ home (which I believe were 2-0 under the Rex Ryan era). And sure hes only 1/6th production, but he also gets your other guys far more favorable match-ups. If the Jets can double up Gronk, Cromartie can easily shut down Ocho which leaves Welker/Branch vs Revis/Wilson. Definitely a matchup im far more comfortable with than knowing either Gronk/Hernandez will get incredibly favorable matchups on most plays.
All understood. I don't think it is wise to assume that this division comes down to two games, but you can interpret that as you will. Also, with Hernandez out I would expect to see another player get some involvement with the offense. Possibly Edelman, possibly Tate, maybe even Faulk after week 6 when he is allowed to come back (although given the timetable that seems unlikely). Sure you will see more of Ocho as well, but I don't think it is that simple. Put more simply, the resulting matchup might favor you guys a ton, but I'm not sure there is another defense around the league that will have that same sort of advantage. Even if we lose that one game against you, I still don't really see you guys keeping up with our Reg. season win total... but of course that is just my biased view as a pats fan.
Oh I dont see us keeping up with your reg season win total either, which is why I think this drastically improves our chances at taking the division. I pretty much think that unless the Jets sweep you guys, we pretty much have no chance at winning the division (either that or you guys get completely decimated by injuries). Has nothing to do with us, but rather the NFL as a whole simply doesn't know how to beat the Pats. But if we can beat you guys twice that simply gives you guys 2 loses and us the automatic tie breaker. Then the Pats are likely due for another 1, possibly 2 loses on top of that. So 12-4 is something the Jets easily can do (especially if we sweep you), and that would likely be more than enough to get our damn bye week. Hell I also have this crazy gut feeling the Bills are gonna beat you guys this year
The Pats are winning 13 games this year again since no one but the Jets, and Rob Ryan, is good enough to beat them. I guess its hard to realize that Brady is good at reading blitzes, and can pick up defensive formations like a fucking legend, and you should have everyone standing before the snap to disguise the play. Only Rex and Rob are bright enough to understand that..
