Cromartie was polarizing at times, but not unexpected. Kyle Wilson was fantastic, especially near the end of the season.
http://voices.idahostatesman.com/2010/04/22/ccripe/browns_take_joe_haden_over_kyle_wilson its mentioned in this story, i can remember rex standing there saying he is our starter at the draft. i remember it because i was taken back by it.
I think I remember him saying something like that too. It's not like it really matters though. This is the same guy that said Eric Smith reminded him of Ed Reed. He says things to pump his guys up; this isn't new and there's nothing wrong with it.
Kyle Wilson DID start. Granted he didn't play all that well his rookie year and his minutes were reduced when he struggled, he was the starter at nickle early in the season, and even started at #2 a few games, with help obviously. That was the year Revis hurt his hamstring and Wilson got forced into Cromartie's role at the #2 when he clearly wasn't ready for it. His mechanics have come a long way since then. I remember him getting all those penalties because he couldn't turn to the ball in time and was strictly playing the receiver, not the ball. Kyle Wilson got thrown to the wolves and took a lot of criticism. Most CBs don't show significant progress until their 3rd season. That was when Revis emerged. This is Kyle Wilson's year to shut everyone up.
The comparisons based on stats like completion percentage tell you something, but how much is not clear. For example, how do they factor in such things as single v. double coverage? I know the Jets do not only play man coverage, but they play more of it than I think any other team. Think of that when you consider Cromartie's value to this team. We all know that usually a team's #1cb plays the other team's #2 wr, but not only does Revis get the other team's #1 wr, Cro plays man coverage while most #2 cb's play mostly double coverage. The Cro haters here are really awful. The reality is Cro would be the #1 cb on all but a handful of teams in the NFL. Wilson is another story. I understand that with Cro and Revis out there, in obvious passing situations, he will draw more attention than most will in nickel situations. Imo that does not excuse his too high completion percentage. It's really embarasssing, and he has not yet lived up to his being a first round pick. I would love to see him step it up as I just said in another thread. But so far, Wilson has been a disappointment.
Wilson made good strides last year. He'll be fine. Cromartie is boom and bust. He's very good 95% of the time but every once in a while the light switch seems to go off and he gets burned bigtime.
Thank you FGF. You're way more well-mannered than most my Giants-fan friends. PatsFan: please keep this conversation on track.
Cromartie is overrated by a lot of people. He is still getting all his hype from that one year when he had like 10 INTs and made the pro bowl Not that he sucks. I still think he is a good #2 corner, but he is not as great as some people make him out to be. I know some people who will argue that he's a top 10 corner in the NFL
Since when do regular season records matter in the Super Bowl? They lost to a very good team that had just beat the best offense and best defense in the league, on the road, in consecutive weeks. There's not much shame in that. I should probably point out the irony of a Jets fan making fun of ANYONE for losing a Super Bowl.
Would we be talking any shit at all if the Jets went 9-7 and won the SB? No. I loathe the Giants, but they are the World Champions. Any slight comes off as bitter and jealous. We'd all be front and center at the parade if the Jets even went 7-9 but won the SB. Saying the Pats lost a SB to a 9-7 team while the Jets haven't even made the SB since '69 is weak. Let's get there this year and end the nonsense.
Jets fans love to make fun of Superbowl losses, because we've never had one. How many "years" it's been since our last Superbowl WIN is irrelevant. That's why we make fun of the Bills so much. :buffaloblows:
So, you have come up with an opinion. One not supported by any facts, stats, even an argument. Not knowing you, that may progress of a sort for you. But it really doesn't count for much, now does it?
Um, yes! Of course we would. Thinking otherwise is delusional. The Pats fans would never hear the end of that if it was the Jets that were 9-7 and won the superbowl. I wasn't trying to crap on the Giants, I was crapping on the Patriots. If the Jets won the superbowl in 09 while 9-7, it wouldn't be any different on here. Half the fans would be happy and excited, while the other half would call us lucky and continue to be negative.
