While you know my stance on some of the policies and the way they handle some things, the bolded CMAN. Not for a second do I believe they were doing this for a deserter..horrible vetting process. All they had to do was do the swap without the party behind the White House afterwards. Obama should be firing whoever had the idea that this somehow needed to be commemorated as a big occasion. His White House has a rep as very tone deaf and that was never more clear than in this case. The only justification for the hoopla is if they were worried that this was going to become the death of a thousand cuts if they tried to sneak it past the publicity window and they decided to stick out their lip and let the Republicans take a full swing instead of that. Given the disloyal opposition of the past 5+ years I could see that as a motive for making what looks like a very stupid move on the surface.

NYT reporting today that Bergdahl washed out of the Coast Guard before enlisting in the Army. The fucking Coast Guard. Sure, lets send the guy to Afghanistan, sounds swell.

So, has there been any credible sources that have come forward to confirm that he deserted? Or is it still just anonymous people claiming it?
Flipping through channels the other day I watched part of an interview with 6 members of his company when asked if they thought he deserted and they all said yes. Almost all accounts that he deserted that I have seen or read about have not been anonymous, in fact I think I have only seen one or two accounts that the person speaking was not named. He will still get his day in court I would hope rather than them sweeping it under the rug and him getting away with what appears is desertion which resulted in the loss of 5-6 other lives.
It's all just another GOP and Fox news manufactured scandal to make Obama look bad because they're racist. Obama is a great world leader and his administration is setting up this country great for the future.
Funny, I just watched that video. The guy specifically says, "When I heard he was looking for an English translator so he could talk to the Taliban..." Wait, who did he hear that from? So not one single guy actually knows why he left the base. It's all "I heard from someone else that..." a.k.a. hearsay.
He left his post, otherwise known as desertion or officially at the time Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown.
We don't know what happened and we won't find out until the Army decides whether or not to charge him with desertion, and maybe not even then. We do know that it was a major clusterfuck to have that unit in that location at that time. Nobody in that unit comes out looking good given what we know as of this point. The official report is still classified and we won't see any part of it outside of a judicial process is my guess. There's a very good chance that even if Bergdahl deserted the Army won't charge him because the report makes everybody look bad.
I suppose if you really want to believe this administration that does nothing but lie, lie and lie some more you can sit there and rationalize and try to pick apart the words of the soldiers that were on the ground with him in order to support the lies of the administration. The soldiers say he deserted. Watch the video again. They call him a deserter several times and say he left. "we know that for a fact" "not one person you can find who was there who would disagree with that" c'mon It's sad to me that people actually believe a damn thing the Obama administration has to say.
