Jets don't have the luxury of hoping other teams lose right now. Doesn't matter how but they need to win 2-3 of their next 4 to have any hope at the playoffs. Knock off either the Bills or Dolphins and then take care of business against the Falcons and the Texans. The season would still be alive at 6-7 or 7-6 going to Miami in Week 15. If you're around that in Week 15, I think that's when there's a realistic shot Rodgers could return but you've gotta take care of business before we even entertain that possibility.
Bingo. I also don't really think 9-8 will get us in and I have no confidence in us beating 2 of the 3 games vs Buffalo/Miami + both of Houston/Cleveland. I was looking back at it and it may just be better for Pittsburgh to run away with the one WC spot which would leave: NYJ, Buffalo, Cleveland, Houston, LAC, Indy, and LV for the final 2 spots.
The Jets are pretty bad this year. But I every time I watch other teams play, I see that there is an awful lot of terrible football being played this year--and this gives me hope. Seriously, I look around the league and only see terrible football, lowest overall quality I can remember. Even the teams that have good records look like they're playing back yard ball.
Anything is possible but my guess is a week from today after the black Friday game vs Miami the Jets will be 4-7. Then the playoff talk and Rodgers returning this year will be dead.
Well, it could be viewed in a different light in that the dominant pocket QB play has died off and the game is different in that we’re watching good defensive football. Just playing devils advocate though - there’s a good amount of bad offensive football out there. But I like it when it’s mucked up sometimes. They need to fix the bad offensive line play though. No idea how to do it but it’s no bueno.
I don't think it's good defensive football (well, overall, there are a few teams playing good D), I think it's sloppy football. I think the CBA has driven practice down to the point where guys just don't know how to do their jobs properly.
O-Lines. One problem with going to a 'pass happy league' is defenses nutted up their pass rush. And O-lines haven't been able to keep up. Of the 32 teams, probably 30 of them struggle to keep a healthy, talented 5-man oline. Years ago, if you had a good blind side tackle on one side, and a road grater tackle on the other, you were good to go. Now teams need elite left tackle talent at all 5 spots, running game be damned. NFL countered by upping the Roughing the Passer flags, but it hasn't been enough. Saleh is spot on in pouring resources into the pass rush (at least on defense). Like half the league is onto their back up QB. Some are onto their 3rd string qb.
If they don't make many offensive changes, they'll continue to suck. Use your personnel better. For example, Breece Hall has been targeted with passes 3 times on 3rd downs this season. THREE!! Much of the play-calling makes no sense, does not take advantage of the strengths of the QB and is ultra-conservative in a league that favors throwing the ball. Pick up another receiver like Robby Anderson. Lazard is horrible. Play Uzomah less b/c he is also horrible. It just goes on and on. Hackett sucks, Saleh does nothing to force changes on the offense and JD has done nothing to improve the QB situation. He should have signed a better backup to Rodgers in pre-season. Then when Rodgers went down, he still had a chance to improve the QB situation. He got Simien, who isn't very good and hasn't moved up from the practice squad. Nothing makes sense with management's handling of the offense.
IDK man--I've seen some amazing football being played every week although the QB'ing may be weak overall. Like last night Cinci--Joe Mixon was incredible. Also saw a DB make an amazing pass defense--I think it was a Cinci CB--maybe Taylor-Britt before he got hurt. Lamar playing on one leg. On another note, 2 ideas in this post, Andrews injury came on a tackle that should be illegal imo--do you agree?
No. It’s too hard to tackle people from behind. Defenders aren’t trying to hurt the guy. It’s a function of the sport. We need to stop giving officials tools to effect plays in my opinion.
Dear God no!!! I’ve had it with these. Either win by putting 40 on the board or lose in godawful fashion so this nightmare comes closer to ending.
Well this offense aint putting up 40 on anyone let alone on the road in buffalo. I'm just trying to be realistic losing in godawful fashion is a lot more likely so a 13-10 win would be better
we haven't had enough offensive line talent to match the defensive line talent over the past decade and it's taking it's toll. d-lines as a whole are better then o-lines. The old guard Qbs are gone (brady, brees, manning, rivers, ben, etc) and we haven't had enough replacements of that level. Defenses adjusted to what offenses were doing and offenses haven't been able to counter yet. Scoring is the lowest it's been in the NFL in over a decade as a result
This isn't a playoff team. Can't score touchdowns, and we need boned headed plays from elite QB's to even win big games. Our remaining schedule outside of the Falcons doesn't bold well for this offense.
Amazing Football??? I saw San Fran play like 3 games where they looked great, Baltimore and Detroit 2 each, Philly 1. That's it. Otherwise it's just sloppy as hell. Sometimes a particular defense can look good for a half, or a particular offense for three quarters. I feel like every team in the NFL had far better fundamentals just 3 or 4 years back.
Part of the problem is the CBA. The players want more time off and lighter practices in the off-season and the owners could give a shit because it doesn’t cost them a dime. So we get 3 weeks of hard practices in the summer at best and shell (helmet and shoulder pads only, light hitting at best) during the season.
