Why so much doubt in Smith's ability to throw the ball? Ronnie Brown had a few successful throws and he wasn't a quarterback in college.
My thoughts too. If for anything, I want to see one or two (lets not get overboard) passes out of the wildcat to open up the option and the running game a bit. Everyone knows we're going to run, but we cant just line up all day against their defense and expect 200 yards. We need to get them on their heels a bit with the passing game.

They did try that Leon to Sanchez pass in the Tennessee game, which got called back due to a holding penalty.
Here is what I hope for on Saturday. First possession: 1st Down; Jones for -1 yard. Bengals with 9 in the box. 2nd Down: Sanchez to Keller short over the middle for 36 yards. That is my dreamscape. We do that... the crowd quiets, the Bengals have to rethink 9 in the box... and we are on our way.
For shits and giggles, and purposes of fucking with the bengals coaches minds, have BS line up under center, with Sanchez lined up at HB, have BS hand it off to Sanchez and have Sanchez toss it to a (hopefully) open reciever. Of course I don't expect that to work or happen ever, but it would be pretty funny.
I found Cutesy! Seriously, though, this could work with Sanchez running on a HB pitch if they let Edwards/Cotchery/Clowney and/or Keller leek across from the weakside.
Sanchez just needs to run as fast as he does when he sprints to the endzone after throwing a touchdown. Fists in the air are not required. I really don't see this happening. Every time that sanchez has lined up as a receiver there is a guy on him, and frankly that's all that's needed to cover him. I'm pretty sure I could cover Mark Sanchez (i take that back). I agree with CK...only way is if it's on a pitch.
I don't get it either, unless people aren't thinking situationally. No one is talking about having him drop back into a standard passing situation (although I saw someone hope for a play action pass...WTF). We're talking about using him to exploit a defense focusing on stopping his ground game. Brad Smith isn't a good enough QB to run an NFL offense. He's sure as he'll a good enough QB to throw to a wide open receiver or throw it away. Hell, he's immediately ou of the tackle box anyway on that designed pass play.
Folks, I cannot believe many of you don't want B.S. to throw the ball. If you remember, Ronnie Brown THREW the ball the first time Miami went into the Wildcat against us on MNF (a completion for about 25 yds). I truly believe our D was on its heels for the rest of the game because of that wrinkle. Let Smith throw on the first Wildcat possession. If he completes it, it'll do wonders. Just ask our D.
We should obviously try to pound the ball, but if we are getting only 1/-1 yard runs we need to try and loosen up the defense. Brad Smith throwing the ball could be a decent option to open up big plays in the wildcat.
1 time this game, twice if they keep putting 9 in the box, with the complete understanding that if nothing is wide open Smith tucks it and runs or throws it away if he cannot find a running lane.
The thing with Smith as a QB was never his accuracy. Or his power. Or even the catchability of his ball (he throws good spirals). The problem is that he can't read a defense as a QB, but has amazing vision as a ball carrier - This further hinders his ability to read. I'll see what game footage I still have of his 2006 preseason QB play and youtube it tomorrow. He holds on to the ball like it's his grandmother's ashes, waits til' the last second, and still fucking makes plays. He doesn't see defenders underneath which is where the botched pass of his that everyone remembers (it was tipped by a defender on an attempted crossing route to Baker last year or the year before in the red zone) came from. If there is someone wide open and the coaches tell him to look for it or throw it away, then the play will most likely be successful. If they give him the green light to run, he will run. And he'll probably do more with the lanes he's given than most running backs in the league.
Which is why I'm thinking that the best way to handle him is to give him three options: -Throw it to the blatantly open receiver. -If no one is wide open, look for the running lane -If no running lane is available, throw it out of bounds. Give him one, maybe two, but that's stretching it, passing options. If those aren't immediately there, options 2 and 3 take over.
And that last part is exactly what I'm saying. No one is asking him to read the defense. He should have one, maybe two receivers that he's looking to with his 2nd checkdown being a pass out of bounds or a run. Simplify it and you find success. The key is that it's not a cornerstone of the offense, it's just one more thing to force Zimmer to think about on Saturday as he's trying to adjust his defense.
Could you imagine the announcers? The Jets line up with a single back formation....Brad Smith under center.... Mark....Sanchez..? is the lone back? (Ball snapped) Smith drops back, and..... hands it off to Sanchez? ....Sanchez FIRES IT ACROSS THE MIDDLE, A STRIKE TO DUSTIN KELLER! He rumbles for a 25 yard gain on a play you will probably NEVER see again!!!
