Didn't wearing a seatbelt just become a federal law? I can't remember, but its crazy how the govt busts your balls over a seatbelt, yet in some states helmets arent mandatory on motorcycles.
Steelers | Roethlisberger injured in motorcycle accident Mon, 12 Jun 2006 09:11:04 -0700 KDKA.com reports Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (head) has been injured in a motorcycle accident around 11:30 am Monday, June 12. The team has confirmed Roethlisberger was injured. He was not wearing a helmet when he flew over the handlebars and hit his head on the windshield of a car, according to an eyewitness. The witness added Roethlisberger seemed groggy and was bleeding from his head, but was able to say his first name. He has been taken to Mercy Hospital, but officials are not commenting on his condition.
It is very moronic for an athlete to ride a motorcycle, especially without a helmet. An accountant, a computer programmer, etc. could get injured and still do their job, but not guys like Jason Williams and Kellen Winslow, Jr. If this is serious enough to ruin Roethlisberger's career, I will have no pity.
It doesnt sound life threatening but he most likely does have a concussion which besides rotator cuff is the worst injury for a QB.
Doesn't seem to be too serious. I'm sure his motorcycle days are now on hold until his football career is over.
Roethlisberger Involved In Motorcycle Accident POSTED: 11:50 am EDT June 12, 2006 UPDATED: 12:20 pm EDT June 12, 2006 PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was injured in a motorcycle accident on Monday morning. The Steelers confirmed the accident for Channel 4 Action News. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said the accident happened on Second Avenue near the 10th Street Bridge. A witness told Channel 4 Action News that Roethlisberger went over the handlebars, hit the windshield of another vehicle and then hit the ground. Roethlisberger was not wearing a helmet, according to the paper. Police have closed down the bridge, Second Avenue and the Armstrong Tunnels. Roethlisberger was taken to Mercy Hospital. There is no word on the extent of his injuries.
With head injuries like that..just because he was moving around and said his name, that happens with internal injuries...over the handle bars and into the windshield of another car? Still getting a very negative vibe about this.
Well, the accident does sound worse than the Jason Williams and Kellen Winslow, Jr. ones. If I recall correctly, Williams slid on a wet road and Winslow drove into a shrub in an empty parking lot...or something like that.
Well at least we know that he wasn't DOA. Nothing in any of the news reports gave an indication as to his condition until now. Still though, over the handlebars and into the windshield of a car, while moving???You can't tell me that there isn't a good likelihood that other parts of his body, like shoulders or arms, are impacted to. Head goes first, body follows.
Hey guys I just saw in another link that he was somewhat awake and saying his name, so at least we know he's not dead. Who knows what the extent of the conditions are re: concussions, shoulders, arms, etc. They asked him who he was and I think he responded "Batman."
People have died after thinking they were fine. There is still lots that could go wrong. I'm no Steeler fan, but I hope Ben is OK.
As an aside this is why I will never get on a motorcycle, much less purchase one. You could have been the most careful rider in the world, with a helmet on, and it's the other driver or outside conditions you can't control. I don't know who did what here, but riding a motorcycle is just like upping the ante on when you will die. It's not worth it in the least.
