Not true. Look at the list above. They all turned the franchise around year 1.

More like the latest I phone but yes - the latest technology. Ben Johnson! Let’s finally take the head of the class candidate and not what is left.

Not a fan of what is touted as "the latest and greatest". Just upgraded my phone last week and today got notified a new upgrade is ready to go. "Proven" works better for me; remember, Gase was touted as "where football was going."

Upgrades and tweaks along the technological front are always going to happen. Same thing with offense and defensive schemes. What Ben is doing is proven enough to me. I would rather move forward and upgrade/tweak on his application as necessary. As for Gase, I was never impressed with what he was doing but I guess P Manning was and thus he ended up as our coach. One minute of listening to him and you knew he was a zero. No more zeros. Ben!

Does it matter to you that Johnson has no proof of his ability to run a whole team at any level? His head coaching experience is all zeroes.

You are correct - his head coaching experience is zero. It does not bother me that he would be a first time coach. I like what I see and aside from Parcells, have not had this kind of enthusiasm for a possible coach in my 50+ years of fandom/shit. I could be dead wrong, but man this looks like someone to get us moving upwards.

Yeah, "outside of Parcells..." just about every guy the Jets have chosen was a neophyte head coach Gase was somebody else's mistake first which should have been more than obvious.

Not against Johnson but I say give me Vrabel. True leader and a stabilizing force this franchise needs right now.
Loved watching him take it to Belicheck. Only guy that beat him at his "I'm going to troll you with loop holes in the rules" game he liked to play

It's a fair concern but I think Johnson's floor as HC is at least a team with a good offense. His offenses have always been very good to elite.

The Gase comp (not that you're making it) is very strange because Gase's Dolphins teams always had bad offenses. He wasn't even good at the thing he was supposed to be good at. Just a totally braindead hire by us.

Yeah, and his relationship with players was subpar; it was worse with management. So, if the Jets recognize the advantage of a guy with head coaching experience may they be aware there are exceptions to every rule. Let Adam Gase's work with the 33rd Team have nothing whatsoever to do with their task for the Jets.

Every guy's first head coach job is a period of OJT but an easier one to handle if they have been in the same organization. Pete Carroll turned into a great football coach but he has admitted that he didn't know how to do it his first time around.

Johnson was literally coaching those "bad offenses" in Miami WITH Gase though.

Gase is a close comp to Johnson. They both had success as coordinators. They both are strange, often aloof personalities, that you wonder how well they can lead men. Obviously Gase failed in the big chair, Johnson hasnt had his chance yet

Aaron Rodgers also loves Hackett. Go figure.

The thing is, I don’t want the HC to be a coordinator. I want the HC to be the leader of men. Dan Campbell gets guys to run through walls for him. Same with Tomlin. I don’t remember either being genius coordinators. To me the hallmark of a great HC is that the players will do whatever that coach asks without question. Andy Reid is a great leader who also was a great OC, Belicheck obvioudly as DC as well. But there’s so many good coordinators that don’t cut it at leading a team of grown men. Jim Caldwell, Eberflus, Brandon Staley, Hackett, Matt Rhule, Joe Philbin…. Odd and/or meek personalities usually don’t cut it as HC’s. Personally I’d rather pair a HC like Vrabel with a coordinator like Johnson.

We recently had what I think was a great coordinator in MLF, but we had a weak spined HC who couldn’t keep the dogs in line and hold the players accountable.

I agree with you which is why I’m not so hot on these fancy coordinators.

I think Aaron Glenn would be a better HC than he is a coordinator, because of his ability to lead

Johnson was the assistant wide receiver's coach during Gase's Dolphins tenure. It's a stretch to imply he was significantly responsible for their bad offenses.

I didn’t imply he was significantly responsible, and he was promoted under Gase as well

What if Gase was actually a football genius who was in the thrall of an opioid addiction during his time with the Jets?
