    EXACTLY!!!!!!

You guys are acting like children. This is a business. The time for hand holding, puppy dogs, ice cream and fuzzy teddy bears will happen after their careers are over.

Belichick still resents being under Parcells for so many years. He felt that Mangini, at age 35, should be his slave for another 3-4 years at least.

Plus, Belichick has had nasty breakups before: a divorce, with Parcells, with Woody Johnson and the Jets, with the Cleveland media (he pissed off Patricia Heaton's "Everybody Loves Raymond" dad, Chuck Heaton, who is a bigtime Cleveland Plain-Dealer sportscolumnist), Boston media, etc.

Belichick is a brilliant in-game strategist and top-notch football coach. As a person, he is sorely lacking in social graces.

Unless, of course, you believe that it was everybody else's fault in those instances, and not Belichick's.

The real question is does he treat Crennel the same way??? Will he give him the cold shoulder when they play each other?

Or how about Saban? I thought Saban and Belichick were good friends and Saban is from the Belichick coaching tree. Does he treat Saban the same way as he treats Mangini?

Because if he doesn't, then this is just more of the same Belichick hatred of the Jets crap that we have been putting up with since he reneged on his promise to Hess and ran out the door in 2000.

Thank you. This is exactly the point. The situations with Saban and Mangini are exactly the same, yet he warmly endorses Saban and refuses to acknowledge Mangini. As I said in the game thread, anyone who doesn't think that there is a reason for this is IMO not paying attention. It might be the Jets factor, it might be that Mangini is much younger, it might be something else entirely, but it is there.

And to some other posters in this thread, spare me the insults ("you're acting like children") for noting this. No one has claimed that this is all that important, but pointing it out is hardly childish (although insulting others for doing so certainly is).

Thank you - I agree 100%. It is clearly a Jet thing with BB or he would treat Saban with the same contempt.

Belichick: Great football coach, but apparently not a great person. He still has the million he swindled in 1999 from Parcells and old man Hess.

He should return it or else be haunted by a ghost that smells of crude oil and cigar smoke, howling in the middle of the night "I want results noooooooowwww.....!!!!"

Mangini just fed him his own medicine.

I saw the handshake replayed on my latenight news. It wasn't warm and cuddly, but I didn't see it as unusually cold.

Here's a thought: A guy who you brought into the league and gave his start takes your act and brings it to work for your rival. If he's going to be frosty, I can at least understand how he got there. Seems he just isn't the type of guy built to pretend there's sunshine and lollipops where there ain't none.

Belichick is a total dick. They ran replays of Jerricho Cotchery's TD in the stadium about a half dozen times before he threw the red flag to challenge. Everyone knew it was a TD. The Pats were killing the Jets 24-0 at the time. He threw it anyway. That act brought on the "Belichick Sucks" chants in the stands. I hated him before and I hate him even more now.

belichick gets a lot of credit, as he should. lets not kid ourselves though. if he didn't have the most clutch place kicker in the history of the NFL would we even give him half of this credit? probably not. don't get me wrong, he is certainly to be respected, even if he is a scumbag

kind of like what Belichick did to the Jets, only worse, considering he was given $1 million to stay as an AC and guaranteed the HC job? He has no right to be bitter about what any of his assistants does, given his track record.

I seem to recall Belli saying to Mangini "Anywhere but the Jets." Maybe he actually fears the Jets. He knows the money Woody is working with. He knows the infrastructure of the team. And let's be honest, if you were the Pats, which team in the AFCE would you be most scared of? Definitely not Buffalo. I wouldn't fear the Fish. But the Jets have the money now, and will have more when the new stadium is built.

Would you be happy for your protege to usurp your position? Ask anyone who has ever trained their own replacement that question.

I can tell you right now that Bellichick knew well and good that the Jets and Patriots would never agree on trade terms for Deion Branch....that Jets offer to Branch was nothing more than an attempt to muddy the waters between Branch and the Patriots. And you know what....it worked! Brilliant play by Tangini. Once Mangini engaged in that type of gamesmanship....it was on. Belichick knows it's on and his focus is winning and securing his job and legacy. No one keeps a head coaching job in the NFL for being a "good guy." See Herm, Sweet Pete Carroll, Dick McPherson....... the list is long and undistinguished.

This is great. Great observation. Other than this, he and NE were in command of the game.

As for the hand shake at the end of the game; it didn't phase me. Whether they shake hands or hug or high five or do absolutely nothing at the end of the game is of no importance to me. It is only media fodder.

I want a Jets win that is it. We didn't get it this time, but we fought hard. We are on the right track as opposed to being completely and thoroughly derailed last year.

I have to disagree with this, that was a smart move. They tried it twice, actually, once in an offensive set and once in a FG attempt set, drawing a 5-yard penalty. Snapping the ball and kicking it puts it in play for the Jets in a one posession game, where if you draw them offsides you win the game without having to snap the ball. It was worth doing, especially when you saw what happened--we blocked the kick and still had a chance to win the game, albeit a slight one.

Having said all that, I've thought Bellichick was a dickhead ever since his hostage tape "HC of the NYJ" press conference. But he's been a great coach for New England, as much of a tool as he is. The best way to stick it back to him was to take Mangini and hope he turns into a thorn in their side. That too is worth a shot in my opinion.

I don't see why people are so surprised. BB doesn't get paid to be nice. Just about everyone in the league knows it's not his personality that gets him paid. It's his mind. I'm sure he's holding a grudge for making that offer to Branch.

The thing is, most of these coaches are actually pretty big a**holes. That's how they get the most out of their players. It's hard to turn that off when you're dealing with other people. You should start worrying when players say good stuff about the coach's personality (see Herm) because THAT's disaster.

How about Belicheck when they played the Steelers last year and one of his players looked to be really badly injured. It was on the Steelers side of the field so one of the Steelers' trainers went out to attend to him. Belicheck RAN out on the field and angry brushed the Steelers' trainer away and you could read his lips. He said, "GET THE F--K AWAY FROM MY PLAYER." I can't think of anything more messed up than that.

I didn't like Belicheck when he pulled the deal with the Jets. He got paid, everyone kept their promise, except him. But, obviously he (like Herm) was talking behind the scenes because he had that Patriot job within seconds of resigning as Jet coach. The Jets couldn't do anything because it was a promotion, so he left on bad terms - his own.

I admire his coaching ability. Belichick truly is a great coach. However, I wouldn't want my child to learn from him. He's not only a sour puss and sore winner and loser, but the way he acted towards Mangini shows no loyalty, respect or appreciation.

Great coach, not a great person from what I've seen.

    lol...no!! not exactly.

Heres a head coach that taught this kid the ropes...spent over a decade with..the kid finally goes out on his own...end it off with a nice handshake and a couple nice words.

Like I said before..could give two craps about it...both guys TODAY have moved on..and that cold greeting should be the norm from here on.

Just that the first game...show a little class to someone that picked up after your crap for 12 years and finally made it...thats all.
