times have changed and the younger generation just don’t care and you might think they won’t until they do lol. It’s not possible to have a team full of guys who will just sweep it under the rug. But I get it
Becton is 22, so in 2010 he would have been 10 years old. Facebook was king and snap chat kicked off when he was 11. Social media is engraved into their daily lives and it's nothing but a toxic hell hole. I can't imagine how much grief this guy has received. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Maturity issue on some level for sure IMO. I have to be honest that when one of the first things he did was to buy a huge gold necklace for $175K that said Big Ticket I winced. If money is burning a hole in your pocket that badly on the first day you get paid . . . I swear I went uh-oh. I guess that's kind of immaterial now, but I really wish some of these players would just turn off the noise and concentrate more on what they're doing than on what people who have no impact are saying. I can't tell you how many times I've stumbled across things in passing where everyday people who don't have any kind of microscope on them but choose to disconnect from social media because reasons say their lives have improved exponentially. EDIT: sp
Who cares what he buys with his money? We got a microscope on someone who’s finally seeing the fruits of his labor. Got fans like revision who heckle the kid on Twitter while sitting on the couch lol eating worse food then he does. If this is his motivation then so be it. Of course I’d wish Becton wouldn’t be so into what his naysayers are talking about but this is who he is right now. This is the same kid who was crying when he got his knee wrecked, saying he was doing so good. It’s not like Becton doesn’t care. Dude is 22, these are likely his first hiccups since he first started playing football. He’s learning how to be a pro and be the best player he can be. Being told he’s out of shape or fat…I’m sure isn’t good since this is a weight he’s dominated his whole life but if docs and the staff are saying “okay kid, you gotta really focus on X as a target weight because we feel you’d be much better equipped” then he should take it serious. And he has. He’s hired a chef, he’s putting in that work.
He'll either make the roster or he won't. It's up to Becton to live up to his talent. Time to stop coddling him like he's 12. Becton is a pro, should carry himself like a pro, and learn to master his craft as a pro would. If he's stupid enough to let Twitter tell his tale, he's too dumb and immature to do the Jets any good anyway. Its all on Becton. He's in the deep end of the pool and it's time to sink or swim.
And that's going to affect his play one way or the other? I could understand if you meant the Jets organization was codling him. But Twitter users and forum members?
"There is a Carvel about 3 miles from me if you can get me a medium choc/vanilla twist with hot fudge and sliced banana. If you can." Ooops, that was a text that I just got from my BIL who's in the hospital. Sorry.
He does put a lot of stock on his SM presence. Too much actually. Some young people's entire self worth is tied up in Twitter.
JD is reporting that Becton may not be ready to participate in OTAs, and that Fant has earned the right to battle for the starting job. I guess since Becton's recovery is taking so long that he may not be in good enough shape to participate in OTAs? Time will tell. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/jets-robert-saleh-says-mekhi-152856942.html
So the concern that he might not be ready by ????? is valid, and it's also not crazy to think that Douglas might draft his replacement, or someone who can step in if Becton isn't able to play. I wouldn't be shocked if the pick at #4 is one of the top OTs if one is there. Or, if he trades that pick for more prime picks, he winds up taking a blue chip T within his first 4 picks. I don't see how they can count on Becton coming back if his injury is so serious that he can't return by OTAs. With his weight and size, how could any repaired joint/ligaments handle the stress? I hope I'm wrong.
"We’ve been in constant communication with him. Feel like he’s doing a really good job. Really excited to see him come back. He’s putting up the work. It’s not easy going through what he’s going through. I’ll speak for him – I do know when he comes back, he’s gonna be a ball of butcher knives." Robert Saleh
