I'm pulling for Becton for both his sake and the sake of the team, but hopefully after teams make all of their final cuts we can snag at least one more experienced OL for depth just in case.
first hand accounts are usually better than what you read on twitter-X and obviously this is a bigger story than yesterdays warmups. Becton pulled himself out of thursdays game among other decisions he’s made in camp
Agree with the tweeter reports. My point was I actually watched the close ups of the practice where the OL and DL go at it one on one in a full formation. Becton participated fully and held his own nicely against Mac and others. Saw plenty of lateral side by side there. Not saying he is ready to take a starting role but when he is there he looks good.
Becton himself said he pulled out of the Cleveland game because the turf field was not to his liking and also a "with the injury I have". He's speaking as if he's not physically and mentally over the injury. Are you not concerned as Becton will be playing on a turf field? Even more interesting is the practice field he was warming up on was grass.
Not disagreeing with any of that. All I'm saying is in practice he was holding his own real well. I do believe his mental confidence is still the biggest hurdle.
You forgot the part about Becton having two surgeries on his knee already. This is just a really terrible take. I'm sorry. By the way, Wirfs is so terrified of moving to LT that he is seeing a sports psychologist. Should we be laughing about that too? He's 6'5 320 so maybe that's allowed.
Honestly, I’m starting to lend credence to the stories that we’re shopping Becton now. I don’t think Becton is going to start, most definitely not the beginning of the season. At this point I think we’re better off grabbing a veteran cut from another team. Becton is 2 years into what is typically an 8 month recovery and he’s still not recovered. People have argued that it’s not fair to call it an 8 month injury as everyone is different. Ok, so it’s a 2.5 year recovery? Is anyone even remotely confident that he’ll completely recover this season? I’m not. We didn’t exercise his 5th year, he’s not likely to contribute this year, so trade him for whatever we can get.
They shoulda moved Becton in the Rodgers trade. I dont think it would've saved next year's 1st but perhaps they wouldn't have had to miss out on Broderick Jones with the awful pick swap part of it I agree it makes sense to move him if you can, he's looking very unreliable for '23 and thats all he is under contract for
What do you think we can get for a guy who you say won't even be a starter this year? Just curious. I've always loved the "this guy sucks, we should trade him" posts. Makes perfect sense. If he sucks that bad what can you reasonably expect to get in return?
There’s multiple reports of rumors of him being shopped, including Cimini. Where there’s smoke there’s fire. If not, cut him. He’s unhealthy. I respect your empathy for him, I feel bad for him as well. But bottom line is he can’t be counted on. He’s still pulling himself from the game, still missing practice time, still leaving a mountain of questions as the whether he can even play at a high level. He’s running his mouth about how HE. IS. A. LEFT. TACKLE, yet he can’t even last on the field more than 7 plays. Maybe teams that have more patience and time are considering trading a low round pick in hopes they can sign him to a reasonable deal for a couple years and strike the gold we’ve been trying to get out of him for 4 years? If they can’t trade him and he’s not 100% ready to go then they need to cut him and fill the roster spot with someone who can be on the field. We’ve been babying this kid for over 3 years now, enough. Shit or get off the pot
Man I try with you, but you’re so much more interested in throwing out snarky one liners and sarcastic quips. Duane Brown played last season with a terrible injury on a shitty team because he is a professional, and he played at a much higher level than Becton ever has. Yes, I’m much much more comfortable with 37 year old Brown than I am with Becton at all.
I don’t care. Is he healthy? Is he viable to count on this year? Will he be a FA at the end of the year? He brings nothing but a truckload of prayers that he might make it through one game, much less a season. We signed Brown last minute and he did more at 37 than Becton has done in 3 years. You may have a hard time replacing the “potential” of Becton, but it’s extremely easy to replace the actual production with just about any veteran camp cut we can get.
Look, I try with you too. You just live in a fantasy world. Duane Brown was far from good last year. And he's going to be 38. Personally I thought he was awful last year but I'll give him a pass because of his wrecked shoulders. Hopefully he can play at that same mediocrish level this year.
His roster spot is worth much more than his dead money on a win now team. He was dead money when we drafted him.
