Um, based on what? You guys have some game film of Becton at RT? He sucked when he lined up at RT in college.
As I recall it was widely reported during the draft process that he had played both right and left tackle in college but had struggled more on the right and was more natural on the left. Sucks might be a bit of an overstatement though. Too lazy to check though! I tend to agree with those that have said that this is as much about Fant being better on the left and the desire to create a stronger run blocking option on the right.
this makes perfect sense to me. and we're set up well because if Fant regresses we can always swap them mid season. Ideally, Fant keeps up the level of play from last year and Becton holds down the right side which would make our line really quite strong.
I'm pretty sure Schefter misquoted Saleh which is partly why he deleted the tweet. Fairly sure Saleh actually said "Bectons days at left tackle are NOT over." This is simply about the fact that Fant held down the left side at a high level, so why fix what ain't broke. If that changes they can swap the players.
Gotta say it's really tickled me watching people who've been wrong about something for a year+ take victory lap after victory lap over this, all because Becton is merely able to practice. What a sad, low bar. Ya'll are the guy on CNBC who calls for a stock market crash for 10 years straight during a bull market and then says "I told you so" when it finally happens by chance.
He had to stop and take a knee today. Saleh's easy training camp appears to be too strenuous already unfortunately -- oops, positive vibes only I forgot. Today Mekhi Becton was doing so great and excellent in practice that he rewarded himself with a break!
I too am not sure why Rich is being criticized for this. I want to know the truth, the reality of what is happening. If Becton was dog tired and needs some more conditioning, I want to know that fact, no sugar coat necessary. I am not too concerned about this: the guy hasn't played in a year, missed OTAs, and there is only so much progress you can make in 40 days at the facility. Rich's comment tells us where Becton is at, he has some ways to go, which is fine and it's insightful reporting.
