I would go with Halladay, but you can't ignore the post-season success of Beckett. That being said, you put Halladay on the Yanks or Sox and he probably goes 25-5 every year
I'm surprised that no one said that beckett also has a history of injury. When healthy he is a great pitcher but halliday is consistantly healthy and great! I am hoping the blue jays trade him this year! This way they have a better chance of him not ending up in their division. If they trade him now they could possibly get him in the NL and hopefully to my Mets.
Do you have any idea what he would cost you in that scenario? He knows he's getting a payday when his contract is up. The only way to make it happen would be to hand him Wilpon's checkbook and a pen. Obviously, if the opportunity is there, you have to take a shot, but I can't see the Mets paying what he'd demand. Keep in mind, unlike Beckett or Santana before their current teams, Halladay has spent his entire career being successful in the AL East. He's proven he's the real deal in front of the Yankees and Red Sox for a long time. There's no question both organizations will be interested in acquiring his services, which immediately jacks up the price into the ludicrous conversation. Trust me, I doubt the Yankees can afford him, and I'd hate to see him on the Red Sox, so I wouldn't have a problem with him in Queens at all. I just don't see it happening before he hits the open market.
Is this some kind of joke? Halladay is in a complete different league as Beckett. Beckett does step up in big spots and I admire him for that but he is nowhere near the pitcher that Halladay is.
This is just false... Beckett: 96-64, .600 W%, 3.78 ERA, 1265.0 IP, 1207 K, 403 BB, 1.227 WHIP, 8.2 H/9, 2.9 BB/9, 8.6 K/9 Halladay: 141-67, .678 W%, 3.46 ERA, 1910.2 IP, 1375 K, 432 BB, 1.199 WHIP, 8.8 H/9, 2.0 BB/9, 6.5 K/9 I'm sorry, but those are clearly not two pitchers who are not in the same league as each other. They are pretty similar, and Beckett is just entering his prime years while Halladay is just past his. So if I'm a GM starting a team, I'm going to take the similar yet younger pitcher every single time. The postseason dominance is just the icing on the cake.
Halladay. I know Beckett has the post-season experience, but who knows how Roy would fair in the post-season.
