Lol boy how have the tides turned. Guess he’s trash now too…Can’t start discarding these guys after a bad game. The whole defense is in dysfunction right now as a whole.
All these guys have talent, they can all play to some extent. No one should be shocked that a guy comes in off the scrap heap and looks good one week and sucks the next. That's just the way it is. I recall there was another safety not so long ago claimed off the Eagles. Had been a highish draft pick. Made a spot start and had an otherworldly game, couple of interceptions and ended up NFL Defensive Player of the Week. Next week he was back to sucking, then out of the starting role, off the roster at season end and I presume out of the league shortly after. I remember the story but have totally forgotten his name. They are good enough to hang around for a season or too, good enough to make the odd play, have the odd good week but not good enough to be relied upon week after week. Guys like this are pretty easy to find. The Jets have entirely too many of them.
But they're cheap... Gotta protect The Cap. One week a cashier at Dollar General. next week starting on the New York Jets. Week after that back to Dollar General. Brilliant.
I'd like to follow up to your post with some numbers to show the significance of what you say. Assuming an average NFL player makes at least the average play 19/20 times and the practice-squad player makes the average play 17/20 times, given 11 guys of this ilk playing together, the overall chances of the average NFL players all making the average play is .95^11 =57%. Or a 43% chance someone was below average on that play. The ps team is .85^11 = .17% or a 83% chance someone will make a below average play on any snap. Given most teams are a combination of NFL average and PS (like the jets), assume 8 nfl average guys and 3 ps guys, only 41% of the time will all guys make an average play leaving a 59% chance someone plays below average on each play. Over time these averages ensure that a team like the jets will get burned by the other coaching team who takes advantage of these openings. This is why when 2 shitty teams play, its often close since they both have the same inability to take advantage of the others mistakes.
We truly can't have nice things... JFC, I was so looking forward to seeing more of him. Here's to a speedy recovery. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...ty-elijah-riley-taken-spine-board-neck-injury
