Well what kind of money are the 3 commanding ?

I mean Holmes made < 2 million last year, and Cotch less than 4.

You combine the 3s last year salary, and its still less than elite guys make in a single year (ie randy moss)

Obviously Holmes was all a part of his rookie deal.

I mean I could see him shoot up to around what Cotch is making if he does good this year (3-4 million). And Cotch aint gonna make much more than 4.

So If you had cotch and holmes @ 4 million and Edwards @ 7 or 8million (what he made when he was good) you dont think itd happen ?

The big name WRs make 11-12 million plus, im just trying to find out how viable it is that this trio last more than a year

honestly i think if we trade anyone it'll be cotch. I know braylon only has a 1 year tender, but having a tandem of size and speed like homes and edwards is way more sexier then having 2 guys with avg height/ You don't trade a really talented huge reciever unless your getting a 1st in return. The browns are just morons. I also think the steelers knew holmes wasnt ganna resign anyways. My roommate is a die hard steeler fan and he said it was no secret homes doesnt like pittsburgh and isnt crazy about tomlin

A guy who was one step above getting cut is going to command a helluva lot more than 4 or 5 million dollars a year ?

Should be interesting to see how this turns out

If he has the same season he had last year and stays out of trouble, he'll get more than $4 or $5 million.

    Exactly what I'm thinking.

This is the type of situation where, possibly, you see the sport change.

I don't mean, like, in this transcendent revolutionary sense; but, more like, we may very well not have a Slot Receiver. Instead, put 3 very very talented WRs on the field at the same time (along with other weapons, e.g. Keller, Tomlinson, Greene) and just say to opposing Defenses: "Let's see your guys guard our guys."

True but the Steelers were a pure passing team. Big ben had almost 2x as many passing yards as sanchez.

If Holmes gets 1000 yards next season, he should consider himself lucky.

Not to mention I dont see any chance of Holmes being the # 1 wideout or target.

Edwards Cotch Keller are what Sanchez is used to (so far) so theyre definitely get the first looks. Even last year Sanchez almost always went to Edwards first.

I think Holmes is most likely looking at very similar numbers to Braylon last year.

BTW, I don't think there's any way Braylon gets traded. The FO likes his work ethic and run-blocking skills; Sanchez likes him as a target; and he poses an immense threat - both in and out of the Red Zone - to opposing Ds. You just don't trade that away.

I doubt holmes will be the slot receiver, most likely it'll be Edwards or Cotch that'll be the slot. Holmes has as good of hands as Cotch and the big play ability of Edwards, you want him on the field as much as possible....Unless the Jets plan on going to a primary 3 recievers, TE and only 1 back in the backfield. But I think this season will still be more ground and pound than pass.

    This.

Holmes is viewed by some as having substance issues and Braylon is viewed by all as someone with catching issues. Whomever performs the best this year is rewarded with a big fat contract at the end of it.

I do think, however, this opens up Leon to be traded. Holmes can return and work the short field.

I think Schotty is gonna move these guys all over the field.IMO i think Keller is in for a monster year. I mean with Keller,J-Co,Edwards and Holmes on the field who the hell do you cover?
I see your point about J-Co being the slot guy but i really think our offense is going to have some interesting twists this year.I think this gives us a lot of versitility.
I'm thinking this might be Schotty's year to get that HC gig after the seasons over.

I was thinking the same thing. Either Edwards or Holmes will be back next year, but not both.

There's no way we trade Braylon right now.

This is a team poised for a run as everyone here's said. I think that if they can bring the VLT to NJ this year then it gives you some leverage to hopefully resign some guys to build a real dynasty.

Of course the opposite could happen: guys could get a ring and fuck off to get paid, so what do I know?

If you have to use "baseless" in your thread title odds are the thread is not needed.

Basing that on this baseless thread.

I think we keep Edwards for atleast the year and then maybe try to shop either him or Holmes. Id love to see some serious competition between the 2.
