Abdul, I'm over-dramatizing, but you're referring to Wes Welker's little press conference as "an attack on Ryan and his family"? Huh? His family? An attack on someone's family would involve remarks explicitly directed at them. Everyone knows Rex as a foot fetish. This is a harmless fact and it's harmless to poke fun at. The only thing overly dramatic comes from people (including Jets players apparently) who act as if Wes' actions were the equivalent of slapping Mrs. Ryan in the face. On the other hand, any time someone says something like "your days are numbered" it's usually interpreted as a direct threat to someone's well being (most people would probably interpret it as a death threat). Although physical harm can be expected in football, there is a difference between threatening to put the hurt on someone and threatening to INJURE THEM. James Harrison, one of the hardest hitting players in the league, made this distinction back in October. Most sane, impartial, observers would probably interpret Scott's comments as a threat to injure Welker, which is completely ridiculous and definitely overly dramatic in a Jersey Shore, red neck, backwoods, high school, ghetto fabulous, sort of way.
what do you call those comments if not a crass attack on Ryan and his family? how would you like it if Revis went up there and talked about how Brady left his pregnant wife and belichick cheated on his woman? Cromartie's comments were about what Brady does on the field. Welker is a little nerd that has to be hurtful duplicitounessly
You don't see a distinction between a toe-sucking addiction and serious marital problems? Also, in the scenario you laid out Revis would, presumably, have to mention Brady's pregnant girlfriend (a rich actress and not his wife) and Belichick's wife, something Welker never did. If Welker had said "I think Rex Ryan is a freak and his wife is disgusting." that would be a pretty reprehensible thing to say. As it stands, he said the words "foot" or "feet" or "toe" 10 times at a press conference. At worst, he's drawing attention to a story we already know about. If drawing attention to Rex's lifestyle choices by saying the word "foot" is offensive to the Ryan family then they have incredibly thin skin and probably aren't ready for New York celebrity and Rex probably shouldn't talk so much in general. Also, if it's such a serious issue, why doesn't the Jets organization refuse to do interviews with ESPN, YES, and every sports journalist known to man that has made clever foot references of their own over the past month? Also, even IF a Jets player said disgusting things about Bill or Tom, I STILL wouldn't think that's justification for threatening to injure a players.
if fat ass put the video on the net and anyone makes comments how is that attacking ryans family. typical jets fans
Got the link to Brandon Spikes Classy sex video? The one he made before he got his classy drug suspension? Has he gone through his classy withdrawls yet? Typical pasts fan.
talk trash about football, not personal stuff. if a player gets outed as being gay, should opposing players poke fun at him in press conferences? how 'bout if a family member died? how 'bout money problems? ever heard any player talk trash about cro's many kids? i haven't. if i did, i think most would consider it out of bounds. talk about football.
James: For mentioning something we already know about, Brandon Spikes and his teammates are now motivated and ready to find you at your place of business and put you out of commission. Your days are numbered!
stanner, yes, because the stigma of being gay in the NFL is the same as the stigma of having a foot fetish... ...do you actually believe the things you say or are you such a homer that you would justify anything?
bull shit! you're saying that it'd be "classy" if welker made jokes about another player being gay?! harmless?! you're a full of shit troll.
stanner, I make too much sense to be a troll and you know it. Nice try with the straw man argument before too. I never made qualifying remarks about when it was necessary to be explicit or interpretive in general, but merely pointed out that, in order for the claim that Welker's comments attacked Ryan's family to be categorically true, one would have to prove somehow that Welker intended it as an attack on Ryan's family because Welker was not explicit, therefore, the comments themselves do not implicate him. In contract phrases like "your days are numbered" have very clear meanings in our society. They are not ambiguous, despite the fact they require interpretation to understand because the words themselves are not meant to be taken literally. You don't seem that smart.
And no I never said it would be "classy" if Welker made a comment about a gay player being gay. How you got that from my sarcastic comment is a testament to your poor interpretation abilities.
man you sound like a dweeb. gotta love that run on sentence. so now we can't understand what Welker said? you ARE NOT smart. we know exactly what he said. you just trying to make it sound vague.
Can we get a mod in here to get these trolls out already. The Jets talk shit bu they talk shit about football, only slimy cheaters talk about personal problems.
He doesn't seem that smart? You have to be a moron if you don't think Welker purposely used or referenced words that have to do with feet or toes. Get real.
Also, the irony of calling someone a troll because they felt the need to say threatening other player's careers is wrong under any circumstance is hilarious to me. It's good to know about what passes for being a troll at the Jets forum, though. Classy group.
straw man argument?! i quoted you. the above is the definition of a straw man argument. you're saying "attack" like welker veiled his statements and some are interpreting them as he plans on physically hurting mrs ryan. nobody means that. they mean he's making a prick out of him and his family and it should be off limits. it's a personal matter that is likely very upsetting to the ryans. i don't seem smart to you because you're dumb, dummy.
