The Ravens didn't have the money that he wanted before free agency - that's why he left. Baltimore wanted to re-sign Ray Lewis AND Bart Scott. Now that Lewis is basically out of the picture, they have more money to throw at Scott. Do you get me now?
he's probably talking to newsome in the mens room...... or maybe he's got 2 phones going at once.... i can see a player giving his only professional team a chance to match any offer on the table but, IMO, those parameters should have been set forth already by the player, the agent, and/or the team. so scott has to already know that the ravens will match. jil
Bart Scott will be a JET once its all said and done. Not franchising him will alter his decision to join Rex Reed on a team where hes not only needed but wanted.
the ravens might of bottomed out on him already, it sounds like were only giving him an extra 500,000 a year but that is a lot of bread right there
Maybe the Ravens didn't pony up last night because they knew Bart would give them a chance to match, and there was no reason to throw a number out there until they saw what the Jets were actually offering?
The Ravens just signed Foxworth for something along the line of 4yr/28mil, hopefully that will keep this as being a courtesy to the Ravens and not a bidding war.
Look, whatever the Ravens may have said publicly, they certainly knew that they were not going to be able to pay all three linebackers: the franchised Suggs, and Lewis, and Scott. They knew all along they'd lose Scott or Lewis, and if they're smart (and they probably are) they also knew that if they let both players reach the open market, which they did, there was a really good chance they'll lose both of them. There was a really good reason, which is that the consensus top linebacker available will almost always get more money on the open market than he would have if they'd been able to sign him beforehand. Letting a guy field offers from other teams is seldom a recipe for signing him more cheaply, especially if he's still in his 20s and the top guy at his position available.
fuck him if he did that, move on and sign lewis id rather have scott but since he is apparently an asshole bring ray lewis to the jets
I don't know how much money the Ravens actually have but they just spent 28 million on Foxworth thinking they lost Scott to the Jets. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/11435077
