roger goodell is an asshole 10 grand cuz the dude unbuckled his chin strap 20 grand cuz chad johnson wore the wrong shoes goodell is really sticking it to the players this year cuz of the cba
The unbuckled chinstrap at least has something to do with safety. Fining guys because for wearing colored cleats(Berrian, Ocho) or colored chinstraps(Ocho) is indeed ridiculous. It's nothing new, though. Weren't there quite a few players fined for not wearing socks or sock length about a decade ago? EDIT: There's even a website dedicated to uni violations. Who would have thunk it? http://www.uniformviolation.com/ViolationList-NFL.php
It was actually a 20K fine for each player... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...ocinco-hit-with-20k-fines?module=HP_headlines
These dumb fines happened before Goddell tho I remember back in like 02-03, somebody got fined because he wasn't wearing rebook product I can't remember who it was tho That's the way the NFL has been for a while now
i have to agree, seeing helmets pop off every third play is a big problem. i have never worn one of these new helmets but i just cant believe that they pop off that easily by design. i know for someones helmet to come off 15 years ago you really had to knock teh shit out of them.
If this fine prevents helps prevent Scott from playing with unbuckled chinstrap, then I'm glad he got fined. Just one wrong hit can wreck a career, especially this season where helmets go flying off so easily. Bart & everyone else in the NFL needs to buckle up that chin-strap. If Scott commits the same infraction again then he should get a much bigger fine. Enjoy watching Scott play on the field & want to see him play safe & enjoy his life after football. This fine is for his benefit & those who want him on the field. If playing without chinstraps is the norm for some players than keep hitting them with bigger fines too. Don't agree with all of Goodell's fines but this one is legit. --- Btw, wtf is going on with helmets now?? Like stated earlier in this thread, when you saw a helmet go flying in the past you know somebody got the **** knocked out of them. Seeing a helmet fly was so rare. Major heat needs to come down on whoever is producing NFL helmets this season.
ok, this is bullshit, Bart Scott was fined $20k for not buckling his chin strap and yet hitting Tomlinson out of bounds Peterson was only fined $7,500. Fuck you Goodell. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...co-hit-with-20k-fines?module=HP_headlines2col Eight players have been issued fines by the NFL this week -- including New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott and Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, who each were hit with $20,000 levies. Scott's fine was for violating the NFL Uniform policy, specifically his chin straps remained unsnapped during game play in Sunday's overtime victory at Detroit. Ochocinco's fine also was for violating the NFL Uniform policy -- he wore dominantly gold shoes, which is not part of the Bengals' color scheme. Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bernard Berrian was fined $5,000 for the same violation because he wore yellow shoes. Ochocinco's fine likely is larger because he's a repeat offender. Other players fined included: »Indianapolis Colts linebacker Gary Brackett was fined $10,000 for roughing the passer. On a pass play, Brackett was deemed to have unnecessarily struck the Philadelphia Eagles' Michael Vick with his helmet. »Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Haloti Ngata was fined $10,000 for the same infraction, roughing the passer. He struck Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne with his helmet. »Carolina Panthers linebacker Jon Beason was fined $10,000 for unnecessary roughness. He struck a defenseless player -- Saints receiver Marques Colston -- in the head and neck area. Beason previously was fined for unnecessary roughness on September 28, 2009. »Detroit Lions linebacker Julian Peterson was fined $7,500 for unnecessary roughness. He struck an opponent late and out of bounds during Sunday's loss to the Jets. In addition, Lions guard Stephen Peterman reportedly was fined a total of $10,000 for two chop blocks in the same game. »New York Giants safety Kenny Phillips was fined $5,000 for a facemask personal foul during a victory at Seattle.
If this is true, then the dollar amount should be high. This is a repeat behavior after being flagged twice.
Was this the 3rd offence for the same thing? If so Scott is being really stupid because he should know he's being watched!
In the rest of the world we play Rugby Union with no pads and helmets and everyone knows the score - you play the game but you can get hurt - this is just a money making exercise by the NFL. They need to boost the coffers in case there is no season next year! And yes I have played rugby union for 20+ years with no ill effects!
Actually, the comment has been made by many ppl that removing helmets would reduce head to head hits, concussions & all the high-flying hits. Defenders would be less likely to think they're immune to being hurt & launch themselves. Not sure if I agree or disagree. But this argument of removing helmets does have some valid points. Of course, it'll never happen but I'm beginning to believe this viewpoint myself. === As far as being a money move I do agree. But not to boost their coffers. I think the NFL is desperate to keep the injuries down so that it'll make the case of stretching season to 18 games face less resistance from players in the upcoming negotiations.
You make some interesting points, I know of no rugby player being seriously injuried by intentional head to head contact - who would be insane enough to do it. But as you say helmets are part of the game in US Football and you play with that in mind. An increase to 18 regular season games would require an increase in the salary cap, as the current squad size would need increasing to account for injuries, etc, and I can't see the current administration agreeing to that, unless the owners pushed it hard enough.
Since 18 games would be a lot more revenue, I'm sure the owners will throw it on the table. Players union like you state will want more roster spots & increase salary cap. My guess is that the more injuries happen, the more leverage players union will have when demanding extra roster spots & raising salary cap. I'm sure there will be other financial demands in the background by players union also (like maybe some % guaranteed salary for players cut for being physically unable to play to sport due to injuries?) == Let's face it for years, touchdown celebrations seemed more likely to bring a fine than illegal hits. Now there is huge push for player safety when there's about to be a big negotiation between players/owners. I've got doubts that the league is all of a sudden thinking about the after football lives of their players in this situation. Especially with how few contracts are guaranteed in NFL. Doesn't help matters that this freaking helmet is popping off & flying 10+ yards when the player takes a hit that isn't even strong enough to knock him down to the ground.
The NFL is getting out of hand with all of these fines. I thought this was suppose to be football! At this rate, the players will be paying the league for the "privilege" of playing.
