I think we can be back in 2008 if we make big cuts this year (like Chad) and cut a bunch of dead weight next year like overpriced Robertson and old man Martin.

Two years of signing 20+ 1st & 2nd year players to fill the holes and we should be back in the black with a very young, but good team.

Manning, Elway, Kelly and bunches of others stunk the joint up at first. Elway got benched, Manning looked pitiful. They all went to bad teams, like the Jets will be. Marino and Roethisberger went to good teams. It will take three years, if we draft a rookie QB.

It's not like we were contenders next season anyway

I just don't get the angst here at all. We're squarely in rebuilding mode. Not retooling, revamping, re-animating, re-anything else. We have the perfect opportunity here.

We can dump salary, age and ability in one fell swoop. We can free ourselves from the Parcells/Bradway legacy of overpriced, aged veterans with bloated contracts once and for all. We can get UNDER the cap and stay there for years to come AND build up our roster with young talent.

We don't have to sign a single FA in the foreseable future either. This gentlemen, is the perfect storm of events here. Tanny and Mang had better take full advantage of what the fates have delivered to us.

Let these guys walk the plank. Resign Martin to a SHORT TERM deal (2 years MAX) at a reduced rate and role and then move into the future finally!!

I agree CMAN. We have a lot of picks this draft also which can only help speed up the rebuilding process.

Disjointed logic, but if you like it, keep it.

The point is that a rookie quarterback doesn't cause teams to lose for several years. They were bad teams to begin with - which is the reason, of course, they drafted the new quarterback.

Does anybody remember 1987-1998? We're talking a dozen years of being a laughingstock and a doormat. If I made it throught that, I can surely make it throught the next 3 years...as long as there are signs of improvement every year.
We might be worse next year than 4-12, but entering the 2007 season we should be on our way to a long-term recovery. If not, Tanny and Mangini...be gone.

No, not disjointed.... this team is a bad team... and drafting a rookie QB, it will still be a bad team. Most rookie QB's need a year on the bench, and that is a fact. Like 95% of them. Pittsburgh had to cut the playbook by 60% for Roethisberger in his first year. Rookies just aren't ready to step in and do well, unless it's a VERY unusual situation, like Pittsburgh, who had a ball conrtol running offense with a great O line. It wan't until Roethisberger's second year that he began to impress as a QB, who could throw and run the offense.

Look at how awful Manning lite was in 2004. He is still having his share of problems. Marino remains the only rookie QB who ever stepped in and could run a solid passing offense.

jets are finally getting serious about being a winning organization, no more handouts.

penny should be cut if he doesn't restructure. abe should be franchised and traded. fatbini should be cut, law cut, kendall should restructure and so should mawae.

this will be the most important draft for the jets in years.

After reading the first post on this thread, I almost want to change my stance on the Mawae subject.

There is nothing wrong with rebuilding. In today's NFL rebuilding can go pretty quickly. I say we will be competeing in year 3 of the Mangini era...

(Our new QB's third year as well)

Gentlemen, our new administration is looking three (3) to five (5) years down the road. No more quick fixes. No more patch and hope. We are at the begining of a total rethinking of how we did buisness in the past. We are currently in the toilet sallary cap wise and tough cuts are going to have to be made. I think that we are going to bite the bullet this season so that we will be in position to take advantage of free agency (to fill the odd gap or two or possibly to pick up a situational player) once our coaches get their systems into place and start to get our players all on the same page.

I don't want any quick fix either. I want massive cuts. I want the bandaid ripped off not another one placed on. Two big years or cuts and trades will get us back in the black and on track in 2008.

You're too confused to be a darksider, man. Stick with the oft-beaten mongrel dog shtick, it works better for you.

If we stay healthy and make some good moves in FA and the draft to clear up a few spots, we will be fine in 06. I see us coming in next season better than 04 and making a run at SBXLI, the most important thing is to stay healthy. If we do that, we're golden.

I am pretty surprised at the number of people who are willing to turn their backs on the very same players who played their hearts out for us the past 4 seasons. I don't think Mawae is over the hill, injuries happen.

3 years is a little drastic, if the right moves are amde we can be a playoff caliber team against in '07 but at worst by '08. We have some serious issues but we still have alot of talent.

As JV & JA are our only tradeable players so they should be traded to get as many picks as possible this upcoming draft

Why would the team trade Vilma? He's only going to be 24 this upcoming season, he is a player you build around, not trade away.
