It's still early, so things will constantly change.

I stated this before, I want Te'o, or Jones, if they're not available O-line help.

He heated up in the 2nd half. he had 7.0 sacks, mostly due to his beast ass performance last week against the Gators, he had 3.5 sacks. He was the most impressive player in that game imo. I want this guy, his motor is fucking relentless.

I'm with this exact same list but also Bjoern Werner.
If all 5 are gone when the Jets are OTC, then trade down as often as possible & accumulate 4+ 2nd rounders.

Imagine, ---- in 2000, we have 4 picks in the 1st round! And we totally whiffed on 2 of them (Pennington & Becht).

  5. I see Mingo as more of a strongside/Point of attack OLB than so a weakside pass rusher. He's got a nice first step & decent arm length but not much else in terms of flexibility or counter moves.

He's not horrible in space & is better at setting the edge than many on here are giving him credit for.You like that he's always around the ball. I think he's a superior prospect to Gholston..but again..you don't draft him to be your pass rusher.

Damontre Moore & Javoris Jenkins are the pass rushers the Jets should be looking at. Jets need athletes who can get the edge

I like Werner as well. I just don't think we need another DE.

haha now you got me thinking, if by some divine miracle we got 4 picks in this draft.

QDR, you need to learn a little about how our defense works and need to stop pegging guys as a DE or a OLB. Most guys that pay OLB in school are not the type of players we have at OLB in our defense. Pace and Thomas are both converted DE's that play OLB in our 34. They are both listed at 6-4 and 265 pounds. Our Primary backs ups are in the 255 range and Sapp is 250.

Rex likes bigger players along the line and he stated as much after the coples pick. Coples and Mo or 5tech ends in our defense that would be Tackles in a 4 man front. What we want for OLBs are guys who are big enough to play end and fluid enough to play in space. This rules out smaller guys that would be listed at OLB on draft sites. Rex will want prospecs that at min are 240+ and more idealy guys in the 250 to 270 range. This brings kids like Werner and Ansah into the discussion when talking about our OLB needs even though they mainly play DE at school.

And if we win 3 or 4 of our last five, a real posiibility giving the problems most of our opponents have, those 4 should all be long gone by the time we pick. All should be in the top ten.

  9. Great post. I would add that Rex loves guys w/ long arms as they can string out plays, create seperation from b lockers & fill space. Additionally..OLB's in this scheme must be stout as quite often they are left out on an island in run support & will need to be able to set the edge in multiple fronts.

It is this reason why the Jets have struggled to find legit OLB prospects under Rex. The requirements are very strict & it's hard to find somebody equally as impressive at setting the edge as well as rushing the passer.

I think if Anthony Barr declares, he's the guy we should be looking at. Insane talent and might give Jarvis Jones a run for his money as the best passrusher in the class...

  11. I don't watch alot of Pac-10 so i hadnt heard of him being that he's an underclassman. Just watched all his youtube. Very impressive as a pass rusher & in coverage. Wish we could see more of him setting the edge but he def. has the body to handle that. Plus he's got a big frame to add strength to. Rex will like this guy..count on it.

Yeah, he's a junior and this was his first year playing defense (which is pretty crazy) and he was second in the nation in sacks. He has insane athleticism and bend (probably the most natural bend in the class and most definitely better than anyone last year).

He weighs in around 240 now at 6'5 ish which isnt too bad. He definitely looks like he can add on 10 pounds easily and possibly more without losing any explosion. He can also run with TE's as you said he's pretty impressive at.

Out of every eligible player in the nation, he's the one player I am interested in seeing if they declare or not. He would benefit a lot by going back another year, but after a monster season like he just had, he may want to go to the NFL. This is also a very weak class at the top end (unlike next years- Lee, Clowney, Bridgewater, Sefarian Jenkins ect) and that may lead him to pursue the NFL also.

What about Dion Jordan? Assuming that we're probably gonna pick in the mid teens.

This is actually a good thing.
If Rex is still the coach, he purposely takes the complete opposite of what people project our draft pick will be. If Rex is not the coach, hopefully the new guy knows enough about football to avoid Mingo.

I really think that when talking about who to draft, as things currently sit, the discussion really should be based on who you'd target at certain points in the draft. For example who you'd draft top 5, next 5, next 10, bottom 12 based of of some level of expectation of the player being there. I mean top 5 I'd have to take Jones, next 5 T'eo, next 10 Warmack, bottom 12 Maybe Warmack is still there at 20, but otherwise Okafor or Fisher.

I was high on Mingo prior to the season, but he has left me thoroughly underwhelmed this year and I would steer clear of him.

Having said that we'll probably trade up for him.

Mingo is exactly who we should pick, and I think who Rex will pick. He'd be playing OLB in the style Demarcus ware.

It's the completion of a trilogy. Wilkerson isn't really a DE, he's a DT, that plays DE in our system. He's there to take up blocks.

Coples is a true DE. He's there to get pressure from the down lineman.

Mingo's the OLB who's going to finally get rid of Calvin pace and become a sack machine.

    You guys don't watch LSU?

Yeah Jarvus Jones would be better than Mingo, but he'll go top 5 for sure. He's a beast. We won't have that pick. KC, Jacksonville, Philly, Carolina, Oakland... Come on.

T'eo could go #1 overall depending who winds up with that pick and how they feel about their QB. And I'm not in love with him anyway. Harris is great, and Davis will get better. No need.

But at this point I could also see us going QB.

I watch LSU and tons of College Football, Mingo has been a non factor at LSU this season, that's a fact.

A player that was invisible his last year in School will be invisible in the NFL....I would pass.

No QB deserves to be picked in the Top 15 this year....it's the worst QB class at the top of the draft I can remember. Some stupid team might reach for a QB, it will be a mistake.

The Jets aren't drafting a QB in Rd 1.
