I think Mayfield has had a solid start to his nfl career. Wasn't a huge fan of him during draft process, but I did believe he could be a decent QB in this league. Baker can deliver some fast balls. Just didn't like him for the Jets. Darnold's skillset I prefer as well. He's also younger.
This isn’t about preferring Mayfield over Darnold. I was a huge Mayfield fan but I’d prefer Darnold 10 out of 10 times over Mayfield. And I will till my dying day. It’s about recognizing that he could play in this league and not demeaning everything he did at OK.
I want everyone of the first round QBs from this class to have success..all of them are talented, fun to watch & bring something unique to the table. Ill take Sam over everyone of them at this stage. Baker is perfect for Cleveland & i think he’ll be all around solid but i question where he goes to improve his game other than comfort & experience level. What you see is what you get w him. is that good enough to win a ring? Im not so sure. Hes similar to Brees & if Dorsey is smart he’ll use that Blue print but Brees had much better pocket awareness & instincts both at Purdue as well as now. Baker tends to bring the ball down & stare at the rush if its from the interior or fire recklessly over the middle. He also still struggles w finding passing lanes when consistently under pressure. The book on him entering year 2 when Ds always catch up will be to jam the middle press behind it & make him throw off a platform if he doesnt bring the ball down staring down the rush first.
I had Sam as my #1 by a ton last year going into the draft, but I was a big fan of Bakers game myself. I was convinced he was the guy we were going to get at #3 because I never envisioned the Browns not drafting Sam at #1. The whole situation really worked out for the Jets. I'm thrilled Baker is playing so good right now, but am damn happy we got the QB we did.
Im sure hes seen some of it but year 2 after tape really gets dissected is when you see really specific & elaborate gameplans against young QBs
Did you see the “psych” handshake Kansas gave him before the game that prompted that? THAT was a chimp move. Glad he did it and should have done even more.
Exactly. Love Sam, preferred him a lot over Baker but I’m glad he’s doing well. I like football and I like to see good players and he’s a good player. Not sure why SGB had such a bug up his ass about him.
Because for some people the need to be right is more important than the need to be honest or intelligent.
Um, what? I'm an armchair primatologist. He should've been bigger than that and then kept saying F you and was " strongly advised" to apologize. I don't mind fire, but take the high road and simply let your play do the talking, no? Too much unnecessary testosterone flouting there. Bill Belichick also doesn't shake hands either come to think of it. Anyway, what we got here is a crotch grabber, a QB who deleted racist comments from his social media account, and a well-behaved respectful young man. Bachelor #3, thanks. I can't see Sam Darnold grabbing his crotch in that situation, but who am I to say. Signed, -Jane Goodall
Why are you comparing Baker to Sam? It’s not about Baker v Sam. And that wasn’t a post game no shake- that was THE pregame show of sportsmanship between CAPTAINS handshake, you know when the refs says “shake hands and let’s have a good game”. It was a punk move. He should have grabbed his crotch after every one of his 3 TDs. Mix that in with the blatant cheap sideline hit? Punk moved by Kansas deserving of a crotch grab and a few more “F-Us”.
Baker sets the nfl rookie TD record today ... also the Ravens have given up three 300 yard QB games all season, one to Mahomes, and two to Mayfeild. That’s some solid gold play from the kid.
