Funny I thought the exact same thing. Not the first QB the Jets have turned into an instant legend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Where all the posters at who were claiming Mayfield was so much better than Darnold? 2 Interceptions 2 Fumbles 4 Total Turnovers today As I've said a million times about all of these young guys, one game, 4 games, is all way too early to tell
I never said he was better. Sam is a much better QB. Have always insisted that. He’ll show it over time. He was the guy I wanted. But I would have been perfectly fine with Baker. Mayfield was better than Sam today and he led an offense that put up 42 points. Looking at a stat line is.. with all due respect...really stupid.
I don't remember calling you out individually. Weird you felt that I did. Either way, I was not basing my post on just a stat line. I watched the entire game. He had 4 costly turnovers, 3 of which turned into 21 points for Oakland. He also had a costly interception driving down the field to win the game. Again, I've said it from the beginning, it is going to take time for any of these guys to start playing like franchise quarterbacks. I was simply calling out the people on here who went nuts over him after beating us, claiming he was the guy that would pan out, not Darnold. If you weren't one of those, then that remark wasn't pointed towards you
There is a middle group of folks here. Dudes that loved Sam but also thought Baker was a player. That’s my constituency. There are guys that absolutely hated Mayfield and thought he wouldn’t be ready to play for 2 years and even then he’d be a bust. Absolutely sucked. Like Tebow or Hack suck. He may not be great but it was clear before the draft and it’s clear now he can play in this league.
To be fair, he won that game but an AWFUL replay overturn stole it from him and the Browns. That was a shit job by the refs and the replay booth. No way that should have been overturned.
I consider myself in the middle group as well. I wanted Sam over everyone else but I would not have been mad if we got Baker. I was (and still am) skeptical that he can have a lot of success because of his height. But on the other hand, what more can the guy do to prove that he can play in this league. His stats last year were just STUPID. Going into the draft I considered Baker and Rosen to be polished passers that would be pretty much good to go right away. I consider Sam to be a bit more raw and unseasoned but with the better upside. Fact is, I think all 3 will be good. I am less convinced about Allen just because he is so damn erratic. Looks all-world one week then like a scrub the next - just like he was at WYO.
I am still in the camp that I dont think that Mayfield wii be a good NFL quarterback. If this weeks game against the jags tells you anything is that Bakers performance against us means shit as our d just gave up 500 yards to Bortles with no Fournette. Just like it is 2 early to judge Sam It is way to early to annoint Baker after a game and a half against bottom dwellers
3 years as i said before. that's when we'll know better. the one advantage he has over darnold this year though is the schedule. outside of facing the ravens twice and the panthers and maybe the broncos his other 8 games are against some really bad defenses. darnold has had it rough so far. cleveland D is legit and shut down ben and brees the 1st 2 weeks although got rocked by oakland yesterday. Jax D is top 3 in the NFL they shut down brady and the pats but the other 3 offenses they faced sucked (us, tenn, NYG) miami has a stout D as well. couldn't stop brady but was shut down the 1st 3 weeks. now we play denver who is an average D. We also have to face the vikes and bears soon as well. darnold won't really get a break until the 2nd half of the season. our schedule was brutal to start
A little off topic, but this is exactly why so many argued that Darnold should have sat the first few weeks. The schedule was not kind.
You just hope that the Darnold of 2019 will be a more complete, polished product because of taking his lumps this year.
Baker has the consistency right now, but Darnold has him beat in play-making ability. We've yet to see a full game from both QBs, both will be good in this league. Much more excited about having Darnold though.
