Esiason and Cowher both said it was NOT a dirty hit. He caught it, tucked because he knew contact is coming, got a second foot down (the league defines a defenseless receiver as 1 foot down), got hit, then hit again. It was the effect, not the cause which forced the injury. Absolutely not a dirty play.
I didn't see him looking to make a highlight reel hit. I saw him looking to make the play. I am sure you know my baby comment was just me throwing it in to mess with you though.
I didn't see this as a dirty hit. Hard hit yet, but I don't think they intentionally went for a head shot.
Helmets are going to hit each other. That doesn't make it a "helmet to helmet" hit. His shoulder actually hits first then his helmet. It was not a dirty hit in the least. Nor was he defenseless. Penalties because a receiver is "defenseless" are the dumbest penalties the NFL has installed. You can't legitimately ask a defender to go from 60 to 0 because a receiver is defenseless.
My comment is being taken out of context. I didn't mean Coleman went for a H2H hit, I just meant that the whole mentallity is why so many players are getting hurt.
Studio guys said it was a concussion. All things considered, that's a good thing. Looked a lot worse.
PHILADELPHIA—Good news out of Philadelphia as Colts wide receiver Austin Collie is alert and sitting up in the locker room after sustaining a concussion during the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Eagles, per a recent press box announcement. The veteran wideout was leveled by Eagles safeties Quintin Mikell and Kurt Coleman during a second quarter drive. Collie was down on the field and lay motionless for a few minutes before being taken to the locker room on a stretcher. Mikell was hit with a 15-yard unnecessary roughness flag that drew a downpour of boos from the Philly faithful at Lincoln Financial Field. After checking out the replay, it looks like the refs blew the call. As for Collie, the Indianapolis receiver is done for the day (concussion). For as bad as that hit looked, it’s great to hear he’s up and moving around back in the locker room. I disagree entirely. Coleman didn't lead with his helmet, and if Collie didn't get blasted in a different direction right before he made contact with #42, there wouldn't have been an injury. It's really unfortunate that Collie got hurt on the play, but there was clearly no intent to injure him. Also, I definitely understand why players on the Eagles were pissed. The refs called it an incomplete pass because they want to follow Goodell's lead on protecting defenseless receivers, but Collie clearly caught the ball, took a stride, and lowered his head before he got blasted. He wasn't a defenseless receiver, and the play should've been ruled a fumble.
