the bottom bottom bottom line is that you NEVER select a kicker with a day one pick....... this should be common knowledge amongst GM's but there remains some dingbats that violate that rule.... no need to be specific, is there? jil
Normally I would agree with you jil but when your a kicker and a CB from going to the SB and you can get the CB in FA and the kicker in the draft you have to make the pick and especially if you were able to get a third string TE from the worst team in football on top of it.
i hate all place kickers. no need for me to single nugent out, he gets as much hate as the rest of them.
Mason Crosby (GB) 6th round Stephen Gostkowski (NE) 4th round Rob Bironas (Titans) Undrafted Nick Folk (Dallas) 6th round Shayne Graham (Cincy) Undrafted Phil Dawson (Cleveland) Undrafted Kris Brown (Texans) 7th round Josh Brown (Seahawks) 7th round Adam Vinatieri (Colts) UNDRAFTED Jason Hansen (Lions) 2nd round These are the top 10 or so kickers in the league based on scoring ranking (most points). I'm not trying to be a smart ass here. Especially since the overwhelming majority of the time, I agree w/your posts, FENWRY. I'm just trying to prove a point about when its a good time to use a valuable draft pick on the kicker position. Its just another one of those dumb dumb Terry Bradway moves that I'm reminded of every time I see him trot on the field. I wish I could forget about it, put it past me, but I wonder who else we would have taken & what that player may have become. Someone in the thread is going to say, quit beating a dead horse already,......and they are probably right.
It's weird for me, I like Nuge, but I just don't have that 'automatic' feel that I get when I watch other top tier kickers. Maybe where he was drafted plays into the fact that I think, unrealistically, I know, that he should make every kick. I guess looking back at the John Hall years and NEVER knowing what the hell was going to happen, should make me appreciate Nuge more.
Exactly. 3 pts after jmac's bull would have at least given us a glimmer, we needed points out of something we managed to do in the 4th anyway. Thought the wind was going parallel with the field anyway? so it should have been short if anything but it was wide. I like Nuge and I actually appreciate him, still he was taken too early, as was janikowski and kaeding. I remember on draft day "Minnesota would have drafted him if we didn't take him." But then again, we were all pissed 'cause of Brien and would have been screaming if we didn't get someone, and he was the best in the draft.
