It would take some real sacrifice to civil liberties and rights to make this stop. Roads nobody wants to go down
well we've sacrificed a hell of a lot of other civil liberties/rights in response to issues in this country over its existence and in recent years
As I am reading this thread I am realizing that we aren't going about this the right way. I recall reading that in Israel a person can only buy 50 rounds of ammunition. I think that might be a lifetime supply, but I could be mistaken. The quote I remember being that if you need more than 50 rounds to protect your house then you probably aren't going to make it anyway and if you want to shoot at the range you can use ammo purchased there. The only problem I see with this system is with hunters, but Israel has very little hunting that I'm aware of, so this would be an issue that the USA would need to find a way to deal with. Whatever the case may be, I think that dealing with ammunition is the way to go. There are a great many gun collectors out there who cherish their collections. I can appreciate that even if I disagree about the meaning of the 2nd amendment. However, there is no right to buy unlimited ammunition and I would argue that only being allowed a limited personal supply might mitigate the scenarios we are talking about.
Will legislation stop people from hunting?? How about from making moonshine? I dont see what the NRA is so worried about. Most Rednecks have a cache of guns and ammo, Confederate flags already IMO todays society is breeding a new species of lunatics that are not just the offspring of those Postal Workers from the 60s and 70s. This calls for uber background checks so you at least you eliminate some potential threats. In China they have DNA altering research going. Have convicted psychos families go for genetic reengineering
Agreed. I think it would bother me less if there was an end in sight for this. Sort of like the Second World War and people accepting rationing and the war effort. I'd gladly give up a lot, even for years, if I thought it would give us victory over the lunatics and give my children a chance to SAFELY live in this great country. But, as you've noted, without an endgame these are just permanent losses to our society without a clear victory. That's very troublesome. I've gotta check the news--I didn't realize the house had been found. Is there anything on motive yet? This just sounds like a typical terrorist BS to me, but I'm trying desperately not to jump to conclusions. It is just so very hard not to do that in these situations. I have an uncle who is badly disabled (significant cerebral palsy) and lives his life in a housing project made more people special needs and disabilities. It makes me crimson with rage thinking about something like this happening to him.
I keep reading various news sources and they are still saying that this could be a case of workplace violence. Really??? This was a well prepared act of terrorism. They had multiple bombs in their house, including some attached to RC cars.
The problem is that that number is way too high. 50 rounds is enough for an absolute slaughter especially in an automatic weapon. Instead of limiting the amount of ammunition jack up the price of the ammunition to the point where it is almost unattainable. Sure, there are rich psychos out there, but my best guess would be that a lot of these mass murders come from those in the lowest tax bracket.
it is weird how they've been covering this. CNN last night wasn't reporting the guy's name either for a long time... I mean long time. MSNBC, ABC, Fox News etc, had said who it was for hours before CNN did
The workplace angle is being looked at since he was attendance at the workplace holiday party this year (and last year), left, and then came back to do shoot up the place... That going to Saudi Arabia and marrying that lady and then changing your behavior is the terrorism angle. Nothing good comes from Saudi Arabia. When are they supposed to run out of oil?
This was a sleeper and his handler. The wife he just married in Saudi Arabia had to be the person calling the shots, and yeah I know that Saudi society isn't like that but Al-Qaida has often thought outside the box when it comes to terrorism. Long-term this is colonialism come back to bite us in the ass really hard. A century ago we were sending people to distant lands to mess with them and milk the locals and spread our power. Now the disaffected are coming back to us and hating. It's not a popular position but it's the truth and it isn't going to stop any time soon.
They probably waited for more sourcing...The second person's name was televised to be some random name from Qatar but that was completely wrong...
CNN has gone down the the shitter. I can't believe how fast they regressed. Not sure who went backwards faster...CNN or Yahoo
The workplace angle doesn't make much sense. So, someone gets angry, runs home, asks his wife if by any chance she'd love to go shoot up the place with him, she agrees, they grab their arsenal of weapons and go back shooting... yeah ok.
Exactly. You're never going to be able to stop people from committing horrible acts. It's been going on since the beginning of time.
