Yeah, you're right, I'm about 100 or so points short with the 1st and 3rd. Oh well.

Regardless, I thought it was really interesting Kiper thought he had taken that much of a hit, and I'd sacrifice if there was a legit shot to get him without rickywilliamsing the franchise.

I'd say Odrick or Houston (that maybe a reach) at this point I'm not really sure who else. I dont think we invest first round money into a Tate. From a talent standpoint I love Matthews I would be upset if we drafted him in the first

I already explained why a Running Back is understandable in the first. If the Jets go into 2010 with Shonn Greene and a recovering Leon Washington as their backs the running game will take a significant step backwards. As good as Sanchez might be next year, and as great as his chemistry might be with that trio of Edwards, Cotch, and Keller together for an offseason, the heart of this offense is running the football.

After the Cromartie trade I think these are our biggest needs (no specific order):

    Offense
    FB: re-sign Richardson?
    WR3: bring back Coles?

    Defense
    DE: ???
    OLB: Adalius Thomas/draft?

    Special Teams
    K: re-sign Feely?
    P: ???

Tanny made it clear that he wants to fill as many needs as possible before the draft so that we can go BPA.

Maybe teams will be scared off by the lack of experience and he falls to 29. If so, he's the BPA. The only negative I see with JPP is I don't think he has a passion for football. To his credit you wouldn't be able to tell that by watching him play.

I'll take the pass rush anywhere we can get it at this point...DE, NT, ILB, OLB it doesn't matter.

I don't like the idea of having a roster full of RBs with a similar style. I want each guy to bring something different to the table. I would have no issues with the Jets taking Best at 29. We just released Jones, Washington coming back from a major injury does not have a long term contract and Greene has shown that he is susceptible to getting minor injuries and is not much of a threat out of the backfield. Although we will be putting the ball in the air more this year, we are still going to be a predominantly run first team. Greene and Best can be our version of thunder and lightning for the next 5-7 years. Greene can do the heavy lifting while Best provides the explosive plays in and out of the backfield.

Ryan Mathews doesn't play anything like any of the backs we have on our roster.

According to Mike Mayock, a lot of scouts are see him as bigger version of LaDainian Tomlinson.

Shonn Greene was a damn good selection last year, but he can't carry this team by himself or even with the help of Leon Washington.

The Jets should go after another back in this draft, whether it's Mathews in the first or a guy like Gerhart or Hardesty in the second.

Think Gerhart @ 61 seems plausible ? This guys projected all over the place in mockdrafts from early second to late 3rd.

Hes a different style hb for sure

If we don't go after a running back in the first, then I sure hope so.

Toby Gerhart is just a beast. I think he'd completely own defenses in cold weather games.

I love Matthews. If he, by some miracle makes it past San Diego and he's there at 29 it's a no brainer. But he isn't, I don't agree that RB would no longer be a viable option. Best although not the best value is not a bad pick at 29. He would certainly bring his own different dynamic to the offense.

I was a bit scared of the injury issue, but watching how he slightly changed his running style this season, it's no surprise that he avoided injury. He does get attacked at the knees frequently, though, as it's the only way to bring him down on a solo tackle. That doesn't necessarily bode well for a long shelf life. Still, I'd obviously lose my mind if he became a Jet.

Think hed even make it into mid 3rd ?

One of the mock drafts from a site that I find to usually have pretty good info had him projected to get picked up by the Saints @ 32 in the 3rd round.

I mean Id find it hard to imagine him going that far down, but us trading for a 3rd round pick would suddenly look pretty awesome.

I think Golden Tate is very intriguing because he is an explosive playmaker and would really complement Braylon and cotch nicely. Plus he would be great depth.

I could honestly see a RB get taken with the 29th pick. Is it possible that CJ Spiller slips to 29, probably not, but if he is there i could see the jets taking him.

The real thing for the jets to focus on is just get the best player and not try to force a need. Most of the positions on this team are in pretty good shape.
