Ok, but I never mentioned anything about drafting in the 1st rd. I tried implying that I didn't know anything about him, and that included I had no idea where he was projected to go. I did see one site that projected him as a 2-3 rd prospect.
I dunno Braylon and Holmes both have enough headcaseness/egos to come out and ask for top 5 WR money. Im sure it wont happen, but would you really be shocked if either of these guys said they want contracts like Brandon Marshall ?
And what production has been seen to warrant Brandon Marshall money? It would shock me, because both of them aren't top 5 WRs.
Any chance we sign back a guy like Stuckey if we lose Edwards? He couldn't cost us too much, has experience on the team (somewhat) and Id say if we signed him, we should go and draft a guy like Greg Little, Terrence Tolliver , or Darvin Adams (if he bulks up a bit) to have a tall WR with good hands that can help Sanchez with the loss of Braylon. WR Roster would be: Holmes J-Co Stuckey One of Little, Tolliver, or Adams. Just a theory. Not to bad IMO.
Sanchez liked stuckey as a CHECK DOWN OPTION in his 1st year so I'm not opposed to that. I didn't like the Edwards trade because of the timing. A 1st year kid does not need a new vertical threat when he's so raw. He needs his possession guys like Cotch and Stuckey, but it doesn't matter now. With Stuckey back, the Jets have their slot guy. The really nasty business decision? Sign both Holmes and Edwards, get stuckey and trade cotch for a 4th rounder that can escalate into a 3rd.
Personally, I think Stuckey is great but Cotch is a team leader and clutch. If we are going to make a superbowl run we need him. Im not opposed to your idea but would just have a bad feeling about it.
that would be preferable, because lets be real J-co isn't built for the slot. We don't have enough receptions to go around and it would be another way to cut salary. A bunch of us said it the offseason Sanchez was drafted, Stuckey is the perfect slot receiver and he isn't built for the outside. That said J-co is the better talent, he is the better receiver and a fan favorite, so it would be hard to make that move. But as you said, crude bussiness decision? keep Holmes and Edwards and move on from J-co, its whats best for Mark and the Jets.
No way I'd trade Cotchery. He has been money for the Jets (especially vs the Pats), and I believe he is a popular player and leader. I'd be happy with Stuckey back, but not at the expense of Cotchery.
Id be absolutely furious if we got a 4th rounder for Cotchery. Getting a 2nd rounder for him id be more than content with, but a 4th thats just garbage. Hell worst case scenario id say hes more than worth an early 3rd. If I was a fan of any other team and found out we were getting Jco for an early 3rd id be ecstatic.
Trades have to work out for both teams. Go give the argument to a GM how cotch is worth a 2nd, he'll hang up on you midway through the pitch. I said escalates into a 3rd for a reason - he just might have another 80 catch season in him. I get it, you're a Jets fan so the glasses make you want a 2nd. Real life makes it a 4th. He has a much value as Rhodes did last year. So if a 7th is added I'm cool with that too.
