We have 28 million in cap room. And the cap is only increasing the next few years. We have most of our young players locked up, with the exception of Rhodes and Cotchery, which I expect we'll lock up very soon. We have money to spend.

I say we go after Samuel. Why? It helps us in two ways. First, it gives us a starter opposite Dyson. Second, it weakens NE. We could pay this guy for 6 years/50 million including 20 million guaranteed and we'd STILL be under the cap by 20 million or so. Rookies take up about 5 million, and we've still got 15 million!

We should not leave money on the table and mark my words, we're going to have trouble spending it all in a weak free agent class.

Get Adalius Thomas, his versatility would be perfect in our defense

It does sound great. But that is a pipe dream.

  5. I expect maybe one big move w/ a guy like either Turner, Samuel or maybe even a guy like Steinbach for the OL.

Additionally, i expect some smaller moves adding some "mangini guys" for depth who dont break the bank.

Afterall, one of the biggest goals of this offseason, should be to improve the overall depth of this team.

Adalius Thomas would be a great signing.

The thing about turner is that he would most likely be a full time runner, with leon getting 3 carries. i would rather draft a late power runner to compliment leon. and they come way cheaper.

People the Jets need to sign/re-sign in order:

    1. Jerrico Cotchery.

Bring your young stars home and keep them there until they're 29 or 30. And Cotchery is a star.

    2. Lance Briggs.

Fast, hard-hitting outside linebacker who had 134 tackles, 4 forced fumbles, a sack and 2 interceptions for Chicago this year playing in a 4-3. He would be a huge plus on the Jets 3-4 and an ideal bookend for Bryan Thomas. Victor Hobson has not forced a fumble since 2003. What self-respecting linebacker has ZERO forced fumbles in his last 40 starts? Please, give me a break here.

    3. Asante Samuel.

Strong cover corner with an eye for the ball. With this signing the Jets could go on wait and see mode with Justin Miller given that Dyson and Barrett are in house to man the other slot. The Jet's nickel would be the strongest package in the NFL.

    4. Frank Okam.

6'5" 315 lb DT at Texas who is screaming to be moved outside as a 3-4 defensive end. Runs a 4.75 40 on the fast watch and would complement Shaun Ellis beautifully in the 3-4 next season.

    5. Michael Bush

It's a gamble along the lines of the Bill's McGahee pick and it's just as likely to pay huge dividends if it succeeds. Bush broke his leg in the season opener after rushing for 128 yards in a season in which he was expected to win the Heisman. Now he's seriously considering coming out as a junior anyway. Why take him? He 6'2" 249 lbs and runs a 4.45 40. Yeah, that's why. He'd likely be there for the 38 pick but gone shortly thereafter.

That's the 5 players I'd be looking at seriously as the priorities this offseason.

    Good analysis

But Frank Okam is returning to Texas, and Bush would be a good pick but i done know if i love him. hes also more around 6-4. to tall for my likings.

I agree with you on Turner. Im also a little wary of signing Pats DB's because of how good their front 7 is. I think that Samuels stats are a little inflated due to the amount of pressure NE's front 7 generates on the QBs

you really think Moss has fallen so far that a team that traded a 1st and 2 starters for him would trade him for a 3rd?

I think so. Raiders need a fresh start. I don't think I want Moss here though.

That pick he had vs. us was ALL Talent.....all good cb's feed off the pressure that the dline provides, lets not hold it against him that he was playing with a solid front 7.

I like the idea of trying to get Samuel. We need to bring in a big time CB.

"QB Patrick Ramsey, DEs Kimo von Oelhoffen and Bobby Hamilton, WRs Justin McCareins and Tim Dwight, RBs Derrick Blaylock and Barlow and CB David Barrett are among the big-name veterans who may not return next season."

I also have no problem with getting rid of almost everyone on that list. I don't know why we'd get rid of Dwight though? Anyone think he'll be gone too?

Go after Sammuel, we need a shut down corner.
