And to be even more fair Rex has had a lot of say in the offensive transactions over the years. These are his guys in that horrid offense.
Regardless if the offense was horrid or not Rex is the HC and the HC is responsible for what happens on both sides of the ball.
 I'm saving this one for the future. I love it when people just flat out state things as if they are facts when they aren't based on reality in the least.
who is mosi tatupu? yeah i doubt you were one of the 8k that were there in the bleachers back in 88. thats why your shitty little bandwagon opinion doesnt matter. fact is i know more about your favorite fucking team than you do.
Excellent article - states almost exactly the case I've been making against Ryan for over a year now. I know it will be panned by the Rex-lovers, but it's DEAD ON.
You are stupid. Seriously. You are an idiot. If you were brought into any non football job as a GM, with no control over management (i.e. coaching staff), then you are an owners pawn, not a real GM. If you accepted said job, you are taking a paycheck and that is all. You would be a GM in title, but not authority. You have clearly never held such a title in real life or you would know. If you don't get this then you are as dumb as most of your green colored posts. Please respond with a rolling smiley face as you always do.
Well, it's really no control over one piece of management. Woody didn't say 'I want to keep Tony Sporano, Cavanaugh, Pettine, etc...' just Rex. I am 99 percent certain that every offensive coach on our team will not be with us next season. That is on the GM. Besides, the GM has authority within the front office, on draft day, scouting, free agency, etc...It's not like he's being told to sit there and look pretty. You forget that there's nobody out there who is just, far and away, the best head coaching candidate out there. It'd be dumb to fire Rex now. A smart GM knows that if he can get rid of Sanchez, while keeping Rex and fielding a competitive team, he will be set for a while. Then, with that competitive team, he can stockpile talent to get us from wildcard contender to division contender. And from there, to first round bye contender.
Call me names all you want. Anybody with even half a brain for football knows that Rex is far from the issue on the team. People don't like his personality. Big deal. Woody did not say Rex is here unconditionally or that he's untouchable. Just that he is here for now. See, reactionists like yourself, automatically assume we're headed for disaster since Rex is staying. Oh god no! No good GM will come here now! Sky is falling!!! One of the better coaches to ever coach this team, and we should just throw him away. I will bet anything that we get one of the decent GMs out there and Rex not only won't affect his decision to come, BUT ALSO will convinced that Rex is one of the good reasons TO come. Rex haters are delusional, there's no other explanation. If Woody had announced Rex was fired, you guys would criticize that too. That's the funny part. I just can't see why people are always mad about this stuff, and just want maximum heads to roll, forget helping them fix things, just fire em all!
Rex may be one of the best ever record-wise, but that isn't saying much. YOu're talking about a team with a wretched history of coaches. And saying he's one of the best ever here isn't even a compliment - other than Parcells and Ewbank, no other Jets coach has gone on to do ANYTHING worthwhile with another team with the possible exception of Carroll, and that was 17 years later. As for your bet, I'd take it in a heartbeat if there was any way for us to settle it. I don't understand how you can't consider the things Rex isn't good at as detrimental to the team.
Because I don't over react to everything that ever happens. What has Rex done worthy of being fired over? One losing season with multiple injuries and he's beyond repair? His job wasn't to develop Sanchez. His job wasn't to run and design the offense. His job wasn't to provide the team with talent. The problem has been that the proper coaches and staff are not in place on the offensive side of the ball and lack of team depth due to bad contracts. Fix what needs to be fixed, don't over react and dump everything. It's comical that people actually want that.
You and I have done this dance before, and you absolutely refuse to acknowledge any of the points I make about him except to say that "off the field stuff doesn't matter, it's the game that counts" and to point out that none of what's happened is his fault, or even his job. Ok, so exactly what IS Rex Ryan's responsibility with this team?
They did get it wrong, Tannenbaum deserved to keep his job as well, thankfully they didn't totally blow it by firing one of the best coaches in the league.
Rex only has one more year left to get the offense right Junc or he will walk the plank too. Looks like your "stand pat" scenario didn't pan out the way you'd like.
The GM/HC dynamic has changed in recent years. It's no longer as prevelant for a Gm to hire his own HC. Instead..both parties report directly to the owner but department's are kept seperately. GM handles personnel & football operations & the head coach handles practice/gameday. Based on what we've read about Tannenbaum making personnel decisions based on head coach input rather than his scouting dept(which many believe is one of the best in the NFL) Don't some of you think that perhaps a GM seeing things alittle differently than his HC might be a GOOD thing? Jet fans don';t think that way though. It's all about immediately falling into the latest negative vibe the media is throwing against the wall
we have an opwner that listens to our awful, whiny fanbase. Luckily he loves rex and wasn't dumb enough to fire him. If it was up the majority of nitwit Jet fans we'd have a new coach every 3 years.
