for a short gap , I would look at chan galey as the oc. the bills had no problem putting up points against the pats or the fins. given what happen to Philip rivers, I am not sure norv would be a good addition as the oc.

besides, if rex is gone next year, then so will chan.

Polian won't last 1 month with the NYC media.

He was at war with the Baltimore media for years.

No good GM will want the job knowing he has no say as to the HC.

For all of you trying to rip on the OP, did you all actually READ the article on the
Tanny firing? Ya know, the one where Woody says Rex WILL be the coach next year? Not MIGHT be, not MAY be, not that the next GM will have discretion, not that Ryan's fate hasn't been decided, etc. Woody explicitly said that Rex WILL be back. So unless something changes in the meantime or a new article surfaces, Rex has been announced as returning as our coach. Kind of sounds like any GM who doesn't want to work with Rex might not want the Jets job. The OP's point is valid: any GM candidate who doesn't want to work with would essentially be taken out of the pool. So we will have fewer good candidates to choose from. And if they did hire someone who didn't like Rex the FO would have a poisoned relationship with the coaching staff. What a joke.

This one is real simple. Last time Tannenbaum Fed Mangini to the wolves and this time the owner is not buying what hes selling. Rex will get a year to prove hes the right man for the job. The rest of the coaching staff should be changed out particularly the offensive side of the ball.

I think it depends on a number of factors:

    (i) (most importantly) what does the new GM think of Rex as a coach?

(ii) why does the new GM think the team has struggled (hint: QB + OC) and are those things he thinks he will be able to address?

(iii) what is the new GM told by Woody in terms of the plan in the medium term - i.e. give it a year or two and if its not working then you have my blessing to blow things up.

There are so many things at play that you cannot just view this in black & white terms.

Actually I think it was the GMs who did it on the pledge that they would not be IDed by ESPN who I think did the poll

Why was he at war with the Baltimore media? He never worked in B'more.

Let the new GM make his choice. I like Rex, just not sure he has moved forward enough as a Head Coach.

Here's the problem with that analogy,,,,,,you don't fire successful coaches if you hire a new GM ,,,,,,,,but,,,,,,,,,,,,,if you fire the GM your most likely should fire all mediocre,,,,,bad,,,and incompetent coaches,,,,,as I said Rex is a very good DC in my mind and a good motivator but as far as a head coach ? If Rex was fired today 10 teams or more would want him as a DC but I bet zero want him as the Head Coach ! All except our Jets,,,,just sayin

Rex cannot control a team. Just like his dad! He is a great DC but lack way to much on the offensive side and in maintaining control of his team. Alway will be Def vs Off.

You might be right but before Rex gets that label he deserves a shot with a second QB. Coaches that show success should have at least 2 starting QB before they're fired. GM that show success should have at least 2 HC before they're fired.

Football is different from any other sport... Fire Tanne and keeping Rex is the right move by Woody... Tanne dealt with personnel and cap crunching, Rex is there to COACH.

He coached his way to beating some great teams on the road in the playoffs! that is no fluke!

    That may be the case.

Just a quick thought, you do realize that by using your same argument and inserting Tebow's name where Rex's is that you'd be making the case for why Tebow deserved a shot. As follows:

"You might be right but before Tebow gets that label he deserves a shot with a second HC. QB's that show success should have at least 2 starting HC's before they're demoted. GM that show success should have at least 2 HC before they're fired"

Not singling you out but it sounds like there's quite a bit of hypocrisy on this board depending on if a key figure is liked or not.

I don't think Rex just automatically deserves a shot. I think if he fits into the GM's plan then fine. However I don't think Rex's lack of control of the locker room or his lack of offensive knowledge and player personnel warrants him an automatic second chance.
