This is our most important need, we can fill the DE with a FA, but if we can get an OLB that makes a difference, make it happen, other than that trade the pick for multiple picks if they can.
If available Justin Houston should be the pick OLB is a position of need and he was extremely productive in the SEC.
I like Houston. Think he has a chance to be good pass rusher at the next level. Also think he plays with a motor that doesn't stop and has good football instincts. Not a fan of sheard. Feel he is a big dude but lacks football instincts and edge needed to play at the next level.

With the possible exception of Heyward, Houston & Liuget, I think there is a decent chance that if the Jets can trade down and get one or two of the other prospects and get them in the range they would normally be chosen instead of having to reach at 30. I do not know how happy I would be if they did not at least try to trade down to about the 40 spot and accumulate some more picks
"Reaching" for need is what kills teams faster than anything else. If the BAP doesn't fit a need, then one should try to trade down so that one can address that need and get value for the pick. Of course, it's not always easy to find a willing partner (either for trading or for sex ;-). If one can't find a trade partner, then one has to go BAP regardless of position. Often times, two players may be very close in terms of their ranking on a team's draft board. In that case, they can take the player that best fits the need. Otherwise, they need to take the BAP in that round and try to address the need by trading up or down in a subsequent round to get a player one likes at the position of need.
We're certainly not going to be able to bring in an impact player at the position through free agency. Cullen Jenkins would be a nice pickup, but he'll probably cost too much. I think we can bring in some stop-gap players on the cheap, but we can't keep doing that. We need pump some young blood into that rotation - I wouldn't mind seeing a cheap veteran signed, but we have to bring in a lineman with one of our picks. Underachievers like Alan Branch and Nick Hayden could become solid contributors in a rotation.
I want a NT/DE. OLB seems like the trendy pick but the LB on this team are pretty good as a unit. A lot of teams would be thrilled to have Calvin Pace (hopefully improved next season after the injury this year), Bart Scott, and David Harris in their 3-4. Cactus not so much but he's a nice player especially against the run. No team would be chomping at the bit after Ellis, DeVito, Gholston, Pryce, Jenkins, etc. If Tanny and Rex can find a dominant DL late in the first round the pass rush will improve by proxy. Hopefully an OLB can be acquired in free agency or in the third round.
I like Hayward, and we could use some more depth in the DE position, if not the entire defensive line as a whole. If he is there, you have to grab him.
kiper's latest mock New York JetsRecord: 11-5* Rahim Moore, S, UCLA I'm split between my own gut and sources on what the Jets could do here. They have to improve the defensive line, but it's also a deep draft at those positions. Moore represents great value at a need position, the top safety in the draft and a guy who can fly all over the field to intercept passes for coach Rex Ryan, who knows how to get pressure and create forced throws.
I so hope Jamaal Anderson gets his pink slip, I think he'd be a great fit as a 3-4 DE and would come cheap...
