BIG props to Gomez for NOT diving into first, recognizing that you get there faster if you run there instead.

I think that the "in that division" comments about the NL Central are a little misplaced, given how badly everyone in the NL East has been playing for weeks.

 at Marshall being "an important cog" for the A's bullpen.

anyway, did anyone notice Beltran didn't get a good jump off 2nd on Green's grounder up the middle?

Didn't matter, but it was 2 outs and I wasn't happy with Beltran there.

Mota amazingly gets through the inning relatively unscathed.

I wanted the Mets to go at least 7-3 on this homestand to break away from the doldrums of Shea Stadium mediocrity.

Thus far they are 4-2. I would love to see the Cardinals get pounded.
I think Anthony Reyes may pitch in the series. What is he, 0-9 now? Good. He's one of the fruitiest guys in baseball.

as long as they don't bounce him from the rotation.

Cards acquired Maroth, so that when he's ready to pitch again, they can bump that piece of crap reyes from the rotation.

Anthony Reyes lost his 11th straight decision, failing to make it out of the fifth inning of the Philadelphia Phillies' 6-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night. Reyes (0-9) is 0-11 since last September, not including a dominating performance against the Detroit Tigers in the World Series opener that helped propel St. Louis to its first title in 24 seasons. He allowed five runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings Friday, hiking his ERA 30 points to 6.64.
    (Updated 06/22/2007).

    Fantasy Analysis
The 25-year-old Reyes is the first Cardinal to start 0-9 since Danny Jackson in 1995. Reyes has struggled most at the start of games, allowing 24 of 40 runs before Friday in the first two innings. He sailed through the first two innings against the Phillies, allowing only a two-out single by Utley in the first, before caving in the third -- allowing five runs. Reyes, who has a rising fastball that the Cardinals want him to complement with a better assortment of pitches, recorded only two outs on ground balls. Needless to say, he is not an intriguing Fantasy option at this time. He will look to break into the win column during his next scheduled start Wednesday against the Mets.

if the rain delay continues too long, hamels might not be able to come back out for the phillies. that'd be a big blow.

Rodriguez singled to left center, Sheffield and Ordonez scored, Guillen to third, Rodriguez to second on left fielder [yisman note: he's actually the catcher] Saltalamacchia?s fielding error.

casey intentionally walked to load the bases again.
