Chavez with the brain cramp to not get Gomez when he overslides the base. Not really sure why Gomez even tried it, but okay.
Hey, that steal of 3rd almost did end up bringing in a run on the not-quite-misplay of the Reyes grounder.
If the Mets can't score some runs on the upcoming Philly-Colorado-Houston road trip they may be in trouble.
I don't remember who said it, it may have been Jon Miller, but someone compared Gomez to Lonnie Smith. Gomez does have a similar running style to "Skates." Hopefully, like Smith, Gomez will play in 5 World Series. 5 with the Mets would be nice. Smith won WS with the Phillies, Cardinals, and Royals and lost two with the Braves.
RE: the Jack Cust, Rick Cerone discussion Oddly, my alma mater Seton Hall has produced more MLB players than NBA players (28 to 25, I believe). Of course, if the NBA was around for as long as MLB it might be different.
Maine escapes the rough inning with only one run given up. He needs to get his pitches back down next inning.
so the A's don't lose much from their lineup. cust has to play the field, but the guy who normally plays the OF would be Buck anyway. Bradley used to some, but he was DFA.
Valentin makes the play, and then plays hand grenade with the ball, leading to another run. This game isn't over yet.
I'm quite sure that the A's don't think that the stolen base is "worthless," Gary, but that inning actually shows you why it's not very important (stolen base immediately followed by an out, rendering it meaningless). Fairness would dictate mentioning that as well, don't you think?
