Early on he was. Did you forget that at the end he would cower at shadows? I don't remember the specifics, but one play in particular stands out in memory. I think the Jets were inside the 5 and he was rolling out or trying to run the ball in. He saw a defender coming and he just crumpled several yards before the defender got there, obviously afraid of the hit. If memory serves me correctly, he could have scored. That may not have been it exactly, but it was something very similar. It was sad and pathetic to see on the replays.
see the obrien-marino mentions in a few posts.......lets face it guys the drafting of obrien over marino is a perfect microcosm of this entire franchise. i will tell u this if michaels had not gotten fired by hess - marino would have likely went to the jets, all things considered. we were competitive with obrien but the ineptness of the jets scouting department led to busting the 1st round OL picks in the 80's with haight and cadigan - along with the unthinkable selection of vick. the lack of attention to the defense in the first round during those drafts led to a depth problem once guys like klecko, mehl, and gastineau started to age and injure.
The metric I was focusing on was that despite getting hit often, O'Brien stayed on the field, which is more than you can say about some former Jet Qb's who too many here have more than a fondness for.
Chad couldn't stay healthy but when he was he won. Chad played at least 3/4 of games 3 times as a Jet- won div title and made playoffs 3 times including 2 playoff wins which were 2 more than Ken O'Brien had in all his years as a Jets QB.
That's a famous Kenny O play, where he was "stopped" when he hit the plane of the goal line. He was pretty beat up by that stage of his career.
such a shame we have the worst fans in sports, the same ones that would tell me how awful Ken is if he had his same career in this era.
Yep. I couldn't remember the specific game, but I think this is it: http://www.nytimes.com/1989/11/13/sports/has-o-brien-lost-nerve.html
I guarantee it but there aren't many of us rational Jet fans. The base in general always has their pitchforks out looking to get the next guy fired. It's so funny reading about how great Ken O'Brien was when Jet fans HATED him at the time and you guys would all be wanting him gone today.
you do realize there are more than 7 or 8 jets fans right? do you really think that the opinions of some becomes the opinion of hte entire group? because thats how you tend to paint things. even those that you consistently have issues with here, most of us have far different opinions than what YOU decided we all collectively got together and decided to think. it is good to have you around. you bring momentum to every thread you get involved in. people just cant help themselves but to let you know that you are a fool. its a shame when a good or decent, fun reminiscent thread like this gets sidetracked but overall you add stupidity to the conversation and never leave anything alone so you produce tons of interaction. hence the reason why some have felt you are a paid poster. insert juncs "coming from one of the worst posters" comment here.
I am here for reality, folks like you are the ones that were running Kenny out of town but now you want to pretend you loved him. AGAIN, if he had same career in this era you'd HATE him and want him gone. I don't like phonies and that's what you are being.
