I think there's probably zero chance that Jim Harbaugh would leave Michigan and come to the Jets, but would take him gladly if he would. I think his brother is an ass, but if the Ravens were to fire him, I'd take him too.

I like the idea of Coughlin as team VP to be a no-nonsense football man running the operation and let him make the decision on Mac and the HC too if he wants.

Todd Haley is probably the most realistic choice. I like that he has previous experience and is from the offensive side. If the Jets can't get an experienced HC, then Shanahan would probably be my choice.

    Fair enough.

Would you settle for He-Man on Battle-Cat?

Even over Bill Callahan! (who should've succeeded Rex) There's no denying the power of Castle Greyskull!

I don't like the idea of Haley. He doesn't get along with anyone and his head coaching record is abysmal. Granted, he was hamstrung with having only Matt Cassel for his starting QB in KC, but he's known to alienate players AND coaches working under him. Also, I get the impression that we would have the opposite problem now that we've been having with hiring DCs for our coaches, in that our defense would be even worse even if the offense improves.

I don't care what side of the ball our next coach comes from; so long as he knows the entire game and can develop a QB, we'll be fine.

Fair enough. I didn't know that about Haley or that he had anger issues as another poster said. I just want an experienced HC, and preferably one from the offensive side of things. If we can't get an experienced HC, then I want an OC rather than a DC hired.

Callahan and Tice might be good choices. And Kyle Shanahan was mentioned by someone, and while he hasn't been a HC, he might still be a good choice - at least he knows offense.

I guess upon reflection, I'd want to look at someone's "intangibles" - their mentality, their philosophy, and HOW they've coached in the past, more than what the results were - although results need to be taken into consideration. And of course each situation - the city, the owner, the current roster, the near future draft/FA potential - also affects how a coach would fit. Look at Belichick: He wasn't successful as a HC before the Patriots, but then it all came together, so it's not just about their W/L record, and I confess again, I don't have access to all those factors for anyone that would be a candidate, but Woody and Mac do, and I hope they get it right.

With the exception of Haley, based on the red flag raised by TwoHeadedMonster, I concur, especially the idea about Coughlin as VP.

I understand why everyone wants an offensive coach. I really do. I would be fine with a defensive coach--I might even prefer one.

Why in the hell would you want that, TwoHeadedMonster? Haven't you seen enough?!?!

Well, no, frankly, I haven't seen anything. We've but all this time and money into building a defense, and it's been awful. I'd like to see somebody (anybody) do something with this defense. I feel like our offense has actually been decent considering the pathetic investment we've made in it. We have a D+ offense with an F- investment. We have a C- defense with an A+ investment.

I, for one, would like to see some kind of return on that investment. How we get there, I have no idea.....

If the Ravens were dumb enough to fire John Harbaugh I would jump at the opportunity to get him as HC but the Ravens won't be doing that, and I actually think they have a legitimate shot at making some noise if they make it into the playoffs. Coughlin as VP would be great, but I think he probably just wants to coach than to take over the entire operation.

Haley has done well with the Steelers and although he sucked with the Chiefs, I also think that sometimes coaches need to fail before they become good HC's and that may very well be the case with him.

Kyle Shanahan is enticing as a coordinator. Young offensive mind who has had success everywhere he's gone in recent memory. He is probably the only coordinator that would get me excited.

Linebacker712 spelled out the issues with Haley better than I. He hit the nail on the head, in my opinion.

Todd may have grown since then....people change. He seems to have kept his head down in Steeltown.

Hard to imagine him keeping it down in NY, though.

Hmmmm I kinda forgot about him. He too would be interesting. One thing is for sure, the team needs to go into a different direction.

Having Gruden and Kiffin on that list is ridiculous. I don't see Gruden leaving the MNF booth after all of these years, and I think Kiffin needs to prove himself as a head coach before the Jets hire him.

Haley would not be bad, IMO. His Dad had ties to the jets, he has a good offensive coordinator mind, and frankly, WE NEED a coach with anger issues or a temper--our last two coaches have been a cheerleader and an emotionless zombie who clearly needs to be fired! The jets NEED discipline--THREE dead ball personal fouls in the first half last night shows a clear lack of discipline and a coach who has lost control of the team (if you ever even had it in the first place).

Mike Martz is 65 and working for NFL network. We don't have turf but maybe he could recreate the greatest show on grass.

Can the defense really get much worse? I'd rather a head coach be hands on with a top 10 offense than a hands on defensive mind on a team that can't score points. We've tried the defensive route for 15 years. It hasn't worked. Let's go the other way for once if we can't get a well rounded head coach.

I get the worry with Haley and not getting along with anyone, but Ben strongly disliked him for a while until the system started working and he bought into it. I'd hardly say he was an abysmal head coach. Great? No. But he was still only 19-26 with a division title to boot in his second year.

He had the 12th ranked offense/14th ranked defense in 2010 and had Cassel playing out of his mind with 3,116 passing yards, 27 touchdowns to 7 interceptions and two runningbacks with 800+ rushing yards (Jones 896, Charles 1,467).

I like his system a lot. He molds it to the strengths of his players, and makes sure that the best players on the team get the ball. I like him a lot as a second chance head coach.

there it is........i posted this little tidbit about woody hiring mcdaniel a couple months ago - jokingly.

however, its no joke and i have no doubt the wood man will kick the tires on another mangini like experiment.

IMO, don't go there and if necessary find a coach without any patriot ties.
