Re: The emergence of the Rookie Wide Recievers. A big kudos has to go to Bryce Petty for this. Whether he pans out as a QB prospect, can anyone claim the Jets would have kept Robbie Anderson on the roster unless Bryce threw those two monster TD's to him?
Where do I sign up? We're already seeing really bad (awful) football. I truly don't see how it could get much worse. I definitely think we need to go with Petty/Hack, and bench Revis, Breno, and Gilchrist for the remainder of the season. I wouldn't bench Mangold or Harris. They've been great Jets and I wouldn't insult them by benching them. Mangold may opt to retire at the end of the season, but if not, I let him finish his career as a Jet. Harris deserves the same respect and it would be good to have a couple of veterans, but realistically, we're probably going to need his cap space. If the Jets decide to go with a youth movement, he might want to retire or get a chance to play for a playoff team. Unless he agreed to finish his career with the Jets next year as a backup with a reduced contract, I would probably look to use his cap space to add a younger, faster, cheaper LB or better yet an upgrade at RT. Fitz, Giacomini, K. Davis, Revis, Gilchrist would all be gone next season. If Decker's healthy, I might bring him back, or I might bring B. Marshall back to add some stability in the receiving corps for Petty/Hack, but if I needed the cap space and could get a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him, I'd do it. I'd hand the WR corps over to Enunwa, Anderson, Peake, D. Smith, and J. Marshall. I'd try to trade Sheldon, but if not, I'd probably let him walk for a comp pick. Bowles, Rogers, Gailey and the STs would all be fired. I would look to hire an experienced HC whose specialty was offense. My priorities in the draft would be OLB, CB, ILB, RT, C, RB and TE (not necessarily in that order).
While blowing it up seems to be an extreme option, this may be a case of: "the devil you know vs. the one you don't". If Woody does have another panic attack and blows it up, that has too many negative connotations. He would be forced at that point to overpay for someone to come in and run the team organizationally. That person then has to make the right hire to actually coach and guide the team daily. Right now, Woody is staying out of it and for that, lets all be thankful and drink a toast! After 48 years, what's the rush now? Give these guys one more year but mandate that they develop the youth and start to move away from FA's if possible. State publically that this organization is in full blown rebuild mode. Not "Retool" either as that is just fool's gold when it comes to the Jets. I think this fanbase would accept a full blown rebuild IF they were told upfront this is what's gonna happen. We're pretty damn tired of mediocre.
Stop with the semantics Blow up or not Just fucking pick good players and get rid of trash Seriously stop with rebuild, blow up,and all The other garbage terms Just fix it you fucking incompetent organization
The problem is you can't replace the owner. If we can't replace Woody, the franchise needs a POWERFUL GM who not only understands the game and can make the right personnel moves, but can also either sweet talk or strong arm the owner into seeing things their way. We don't have that right now. It'll be interesting to see if Mac will last long enough to choose his own head coach. Based on the contracts he's doled out up to this point, either his decision quality is poor or he's being strong armed by Woody. Either is a major concern. Hire a skilled GM. Let that GM shape the organization the way they see fit. Give that GM time to realize their vision, even if it means supporting them through unpopular decisions and losing seasons. Then and only then will this franchise turn things around.
I'm generally not in favor of not giving staff the time to setup roots and build their own atmosphere but this season has really turned into a joke. There's no sense in keeping a coach for the sake of trying to maintain continuity especially when the locker room has seemingly been lost by two out of three of your 'star' players. Wilk just got paid and he's not showing up to team walk throughs? This team needs to start fresh in a two year rebuild with an offensive minded coach. We got Maccagnan and Bowles together and tried to put an immediate winner together, similar to what Tannenbaum did. The immediate winner did not win. No more huge contracts to anyone over the age of 26. No more trades for somewhat troubled veteran players.
Agree with your assessment of Woody. The thing I keep wondering, and I've asked this before without answer, is, How in the world did Bowles lose the Locker room from last year to this? How did he go from a guy who schemed decent last year, to a guy who's players won't play for him, and who could care less about even coming to or being on time for meetings? What the hey Happened?
I don't know why we inherited the Buffalos' offense in the first place because they never made it to the playoffs...
I would. To me, Mac is a guy that hasn't been overwhelmed by the job. Not a lifetime gig, but a much longer leash than TB...
The reality is this team has SO many needs that BPA could be at any number of positions in the 1st and 2nd round. For the record, I not fully in either camp - need or BPA.
To me, Woody wants his team in the spotlight and in the media. His actions over the years tell me this.
