I thought about what you wrote. You're right. What I wrote was unnecessary baiting in responding to the post above it.
Yeah, pulling out the race card is pretty low in professional sports. Doesn't even make sense. Pulling it out on Geno Smith is beyond ridiculous. He was one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL in 2013. That is just a fact. The question is do you see room for improvement? Seems like most Jets fans do.
http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/sto...k-rex-ryan-talk-geno-smith-managing-celebrity Sounds like Idzik and Ryan have spoken to Geno about his off the field, offseason issues. Not a huge deal here, but hopefully Geno takes it to heart and stays out of any negative spotlight.
I'm not sure why the Jets brass needed to talk to Geno about anything. Clearly some skank duped him into allowing her to take a picture of his junk and it's not his fault it showed up on the Internet. And he was brutalized by a crazed flight attendant and the airline admitted complete culpability and fully exonerated Geno as having no fault whatsoever in the incident so why do the need to talk to him about that? Just more media BS. _
I'm confused. What does money or contract have to do with the scheme instituted by an offensive coordinator? Seems incongruous. _
The next article I want to read about Geno is how hard he is working this off-season on his footwork!
I basically agree with you, but disagree on one important point. If he allows some skank he doesn't know that well (if at all) to take a picture of his privates, it's TOTALLY his fault it winds up on the internet. That's just plain stupid on his part. Has he never read a paper, listened to the news? Crap like that happens all the time. You can't blame everything on being a dumb jock or an immature kid. That was just flat out stupid and wrong.
You definitely can't ignore the fact that Geno played better when he had his better options available, however if you take any QB's 12 best games out of 16 you are going to make him look better than he was for the season as a whole. The thing that we all have to realize is that Geno must be a much better QB next year than he was this year to take the job and hold it. There are lots of people who have had the skills to play in the NFL but never managed to put it all together and carve out their place in the league. I view Geno right now as being on par with where Mark Sanchez was after his rookie season. The circumstances are a bit different, because Sanchez had a lot more talent available to play with and the Jets went a lot farther at the end of the season, however neither QB had actually proved they belonged in the NFL by the end of their rookie season. I'm not particularly disposed to repeat Sanchez seasons two and three with Geno if that is what is on tap. He needs to take a big step forward and be a good QB next season or the Jets are probably better off restarting the search for the franchise QB. There are a lot of reasons that a QB might not look very good his first few seasons. Most of them revolve around the ability/mentality of the QB in question.
Whoa whoa whoa. He's just an innocent kid. This stuff happens all the time. It's not his fault, I mean who hasn't allowed their junk to be photographed while on a date- how could he ever imagine someone would post it on the Internet? Not during these times. Not with the difficulty it is to do that these days what with the primitive technology available. First You have to take the film down to Fotomat, wait 5-7 days to get the pictures developed. Then find someone with a mainframe and a scanner to produce an analog copy of the photo, then digitally reproduce it, then put it on mag cards or some other medium to upload it to the internetz, it's freaking impossible. He had no expectation that his junk would every show up on line. But even with all that, tell me you haven't seen the pictures of Lucks junk on the Internet. Or Wilson's? Or Andy Dalton's? Oh that poor guy. Hell, we saw Sanchez's naked ass on the Internet and what an idiot that guy turned out to be. Point is, it's not Geno's fault. There is no reason to chastise him for what was an innocent mistake that really wasn't his fault. _
I asked the same question. And got no answer. If you are going to have a reasoned discussion about scheme and offensive coordinators and players capabilities (or in capabilities), bringing up money or laughing all the way to the bank is infantile, juvenile, immature, prepubescent, pick the synonym. But is just smacks of someone unable to carry on an intelligent discussion without displaying some form of childish ignorance. Well done Zach. You win the internetz. _
All I was saying was... simply, it's but a "Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda" argument - except Sanchez got paid. P.S. Jets must move on from Sanchez. The kid ain't the same kid he was when he was coming out of college. His stinger injury will stay there for the entire duration of his career. I don't see how he can get better with that. He certainly didn't help himself last year when he injured his shoulder on top of that stuff.
I think automatically giving him all of next season is too much. We need a capable vet back up - this team (assuming we add weapons) can win. If he doesn't have it together by week 6 then it's time to move on. Hopefully our bye week is conducive to making a switch if that is what's called for.
"As long as there is a season next year I'll be the starter" I like the confidence I just hope he backs it up on the field.
I can't wait until Geno comes in next year and lights it up.. Half the members on this site are going to leave.
