I don't know why I keep seeing this. Any team that's picking #1 is shit and probably has been shit for some time. The player has to have the confidence to be "THE ONE". If Lawrence opts out to avoid the Jets (if they are in the first pick slot) then he wasn't the guy. Did Joe Burrow opt out to avoid Cinci? What has Cinci done in the last 20 years?
When was the last time the Jets developed a quarterback in any meaningful way? Lawrence probably won’t opt out, but if there was ever a team to avoid, it’s the Jets.
Well let's look over the last 15 years: Washington Miami Jets Cleveland San Francisco Denver Tennessee Jacksonville Chicago Tampa Bay 31% of the league, in my opinion.
Point I was trying to make is Sam's ceiling is a solid starter when he has support-- Lawrence's ceiling based on his traits and cllege resume is someone who can carry a team. Give me Lawrence if we draft 1....you don't pass on that unless you have Mahomes, Wilson or Watson
When you have ownership that tries to fix things from a dozen different directions and the result always seems to be the same, there's only one direction you can point the finger. They don't understand what it means to build a winning culture, only to try to mimic what other teams have done. They tried to copy the late 90s Bucs, the early 2000s Ravens, got fooled by Favre, almost fooled the league with Rex, tried to copy the 2010s Seahawks, and most recently tried to copy the Rams with McVay, and maybe the Eagles GM. Edit: Almost forgot, they tried to copy the 2000s Patriots with Mangini. Their business model is to badly mimic successful teams instead of trying to understand what made those teams successful. They don't get it and they never will.
Exactly. I just posted in the Org Chart thread...hopefully the embarrassment of giving Gase the keys to the castle and then having to fire him 2 years later will humble these clowns to get out of the way.
A couple of weeks ago I thought those would be wins. No more. The Chargers have a very good, if not great, defense. They almost beat the Chiefs yesterday and held them to 20 points. We probably won't even score against them. I don't know how close the game really was, but Miami only lost by 3 to Buffalo and scored 28 points. I doubt we can even beat Miami. For certain they have a much better HC. Denver is a lot better than I thought as well. I can easily see us going winless if Gase isn't fired during the season.
I wouldn't include Denver. They did win a SB a few years ago and they have talent. Washington has a good HC and has some defensive talent. San Francisco is now a great place for a QB to go. Tampa Bay has talent. Jacksonville has talent, but they probably aren't looking for a QB. They are playing extremely well in spite of the fact that people thought they would be tanking. Tennessee has a great team now. Miami has its QB of the future. Chicago is 2-0, so they have some talent. Cleveland has a ton of talent and Mayfield. The only team on that list that really needs a QB is the Jets. Cleveland may not be happy with Mayfield, but that should be a pretty good place for a QB to land.
I think Sam's ceiling is higher than just being a solid starter. I think he has the physical talent to be a top 5 QB in the NFL. My question is whether he has the right mindset and the mental toughness.
Let's take a look at the (0-2) teams: -Dolphins -Jets -Broncos -Bengals -Texans -Giants -Eagles -Vikings -Lions -Falcons -Panthers 11 teams. None of them great, but the Texans and Vikings are pretty good. The Washington Football Team, Los Angeles Chargers, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars are (1-1). So that is 16 teams right there who the Jets are pretty close to similar to. The reason you could put the Jets at #32 is the lack of faith in Gase. Some of those other teams have similar lack of talent, but either have new coaches or feel coaching isn't the problem. I think Joe Douglas looked around the league and realized the Super Bowl would be won by the Chiefs, Ravens, Packers, Saints, Buccaneers, or Seahawks this season and why waste cap when the Jets have no shot at a title anyway? He is right, but also has set the team up to be horrendous. They can make a jump in 2021, but it may include a new coaching staff. I just hope they have a plan. I felt they did, but now I am unsure.
Oh how could I FORGET HOW WE CAN’T SIGN A FA TO SAVE OUR LIVES? How can an NFL franchise be so god damn inept for so long? It really blows my mind.
