?

One, do you agree that the Jets are only 8 above-average players away from becoming SB contenders?

Thanks for clearing things up. Sorry if I misunderstood you to some extent. We're more in agreement, but Worilds isn't the only FA OLB on the market that's worth considering. I'd love to have him, but actually, I think he will cost too much. Worilds is 26, but so are Pernell McPhee of the Ravens and Sam Acho of the Cardinals, and Brooks Reed of the Texans is 27. Bowles will know Acho's abilities and McCagnan will know Reed's. McPhee has had 17 sacks over the last 4 years (6, 1.5, 2, and 7.5) this past season. A plus in signing him is that it would weaken the Ravens. Acho has had 13 sacks over the last 4 years, but unfortunately his numbers are going backwards. He's had 7, 4, 1 and 1. The two ones were under Bowles. I'm not sure if he has been nicked up with injuries or if Bowles used him more in coverage, or what the story is, but Bowles will know. Reed has had 14.5 sacks (6, 2.5, 3 and 3) the last 4 years. I liked all three of these guys when they entered the draft and was hoping that the Jets would have drafted one of them. They all have good to excellent speed and excellent motors. All are likely to come cheaper, perhaps half the cost of Worilds. The Jets have a lot of needs. I'd rather see the Jets sign one of these guys and have the ability to sign 1-2 additional FAs, than just Worilds alone.

At ILB Brandon Spikes is available. He's 27. Signing him would weaken the Bills. He's made or been in on 340 tackles in his 5-year career, and has defensed 15 passes, made 2 interceptions and forced 6 fumbles. My only concern with him is he may be pretty expensive. There are a couple of other guys as well. I don't follow the Cowboys, so don't know what alignment they play, but know they used to play a 3-4 when Parcells was there. He's 25. While he only has 7.5 sacks in his 4-year career (.5, 5, 1, and 1), he has been in on 327 tackles, defensed 23 passes, has 3 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles. He could be pricey as well. Two likely cheaper players who would be competition and possibly only depth are Jamari Lattimore of the Packers (26) and Marcus Bernard of the Cardinals (29). Bernard has been strictly a backup. Lattimore has started 49 of 60 games in his career. I don't know if he's had injury issues or been more of a role player/key backup or a borderline starter. He's made 85 tackles, had 2 sacks, defended 2 passes, and had 1 interception and forced 1 fumble.

The Jets probably won't be able to have all their FAs be starters. Depth is also a problem on the team. They will probably need to sign some 2nd and 3rd tier FAs for competition and to fill holes so that they aren't forced to draft a player at a position of need and can go BAP in the draft.

I would love to draft Perryman or Kendricks as well, but if Harris is gone and the Jets are forced to have to draft Perryman, Kendricks or another ILB, then that could cause problems, especially if someone grabs those guys before the Jets pick. It could force Mac to have to trade up to get one of them, and the Jets cannot afford to trade up.

I have to admit, I didn't do much research on the OLB market before posting that, those were just the first names that came to mind from previous google searches/posters on here.

I would be on board with any of those OLB's you mentioned, especially Reed. I, like you, wanted the Jets to draft Reed when he first came out. We could have a capable OLB core with just the addition of Reed I think. It wouldn't blow anybody away but I think Reed and Coples would be a good tandem in Bowles' scheme.

Also, when you referenced the Cowboys, I assume you're talking about Rolando McClain, if so I would be on board with getting him as well. He sort of had a resurgence this year and looks like a much different player than what the Raiders drafted a few years back.

Needless to say, I am very much looking forward to March 10th.

I think they have to get a corner. Sorry, but from what I have seen of Milliner, I cannot conceive of him playing a full season. And torn Achilles tendons scare me more than ACLs. I have also no idea if McDougle is an NFL player. He took virtually no snaps last year. I think it depends on Maccagnan's take on Milliner and McDougle. I like Marcus, not crazy about Walls, who seems to give a 20 yard cushion to the guys he covers. They do not need a Revis. I agree about that. Those kinds of guys are really not take-you-over-the-top guys, especially at the price they want. I want a credible corner in here. I cannot say that Milliner and McDougle, or even Marcus, who might be better than both, are credible at this point.

i'll tell ya if we are only 8 players away with our cap space and level of draft pick we might be back sooner than some may think.

the problem is, 1 of those 8 players is QB.

For the record, I fully believe if we get an above average QB on the roster we are back in the playoffs, combine that with shoring up the CB position we will be way better, and fast.
