I think he's a fantastic OC, as far as play designing goes (edited after being owned by Cakes).. I watched a bunch of Lions games this year, and I'll tell you one thing, it was not the play design that was failing them... Dropped passes, overthrows, etc were their downfall... Martz is the only OC I've ever seen who can design plays so that he has at least one play where a WR gets wide open 25+ yards down field every single drive...

I'd LOVE Martz instead of Shittenheimer...

Do you like it when Martz doesn't even try to get the run game going?

I didn't say he was a great play CALLER I said he was a great play designer...

That being said, I'd rather have an illogical, yet creative OC with a wide range of plays to keep the defense on their heels, than a predictable OC who relies on gimmicks to spark his offense once a game... Although neither is ideal....

I guess Schottenheimer has me so sickened, that everything looks fantastic... Maybe I should have specified that it was Martz's play designs that have me enthusiastic about any possibility of bringing him in, as opposed to his game-day prowess.... Edited that first post...

good god NO, thomas jones would have like 500 yds rushing a season, and clemons would have 30 ints a season, we would throw on 3rd and 1 all the time and lose, trust me, we dont want him as our oc

The guy has been garbage ever since Marshall Faulk retired.

Mike Martz has a ego that gets the best of him.

    No...F'n...Way!

I dont know. I think this could work. We do have a strong arm qb now, and if we make the right OL moves, adding Martz could make us the most potent offense the NYJ has seen since Namath wore pantyhoes.

Isaac Bruce, Orlando Pace, Torry Holt, Marshall Faulk, and Kurt Warner made Martz look a lot better than he was.

Maybe it was Martz that made Warner look good.

People forget that Kurt Warner was bagging groceries at Safeway before he took off under the "Greatest Show on Turf."

Having Martz as OC would help Clemens, I think. Kitna was an average QB before Martz took over in Detroit; Bulger become a borderline star under Martz's system as well.

Kitna was always a pretty solid QB... average, but dependable and generally consistent. I'm not sure Martz gets much credit there. And how hard is it to be the OC with a healthy Marshall Faulk, Isaac Bruce and Tory Holt on your rosters? Look at San Diego. Even a boob like Turner can manage to coach a team with an LT on it.

Yeah, but Warner played very well for the Cardinals this season.

Kitna is consistently inconsistent. Especially this year. ]

Martz would be an upgrade over Schottenheimer and I think he'd aid in the development of Clemens. But I doubt they'd go there. They'll give Schottenheimer another season. I'm loving the potential Rob Ryan hire. I think 2008 is the year we start to turn it around.

I like Martz but for him to be successful you need to have offensive players and we don't. Our QB sucks, our receivers are barely adequate and we can't run the ball to save our lives..so forget Martz.

You know, I keep hearing how Schotts is a complex offense, and hard to learn. We gain about 3 yards a pop. Complex we don't need. But I agree. We don't have the kind of talent to make a Martz offense go. On top of that, I just think that Martz is a loser.
