Your missing one key point. Belichik found Tom Brady while Mangini has Brady Quinn. So your point is wait and see and maybe Mangini will end up having the success of Belichik if he gets one of the best qbs ever to play the game???
1) As you said, Belicheck had already established himself as one of the greatest defensive minds in football. He initially struggled as a head coach, but nobody doubted his credentials. Mangini, on the other hand, has never had the results to back up his hype either as a head coach or a coordinator. 2) Maybe if Mangini lucks into one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history he'll turn things around too. But he doesn't have Tom Brady.
Me too. I really didn't dislike Mangini until the Seattle game. When that game concluded I said to myself, "he should be fired for that". He was, and I was pleased.
I thought I felt a little sorry for him until you brought up the Seattle game.. Forgot how much I never wanted to see another scowly faced, say nothing press conference again.. (I'm not sure if scowly is a real word, but it fits)
Why would you feel sorry for him? He's coming back to coach my Browns next year. (Oh boy.) Personally, I'm excited about what you're planning to do with Joshua Cribbs and our high draft pick next year.
"I feel worse for Holmgren. Now he saw Mangini win 4 straight meaningless games against teams that fizzled and he's probably gonna keep this guy around. A guy that trades his best players." I think there is a definate method to his madness. The Browns were horrendous before he showed up. He's going to wipe the slate clean and have 127 picks for what I've been hearing all year is the best draft in a decade. He can probably rebuild the whole team from scratch with players he can mold into what he wants. I don't think he's a bad coach, I think he's just trying to be Bellicheat too much and he can't pull it off, because he doesn't have his own Tom Brady.
I honestly don't understand the Mangini hate from the Jets fans. He didn't really do that bad. He's no Coach Ryan, but if Favre hadn't totally destroyed your season with an injury he'd still be on the roster. If he went 5-11 after the 4-12 season, yeah I could see some contempt. I think he's just a decent coach who set up the Jets in an all right position for Coach Ryan to succeed.
Yeah I don't really mind Mangini. He certainly left the Jets in better shape than when he acquired them. Almost this entire team was assembled by Mangini when he was the Jets coach, or traded to the Jets from Cleveland.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Mangini is a great talent evaluator. He's a horrible coach. Most of the defense Rex inherited is the same, except Rex coaxed a lot more talent out of them. Rex is a very good coach. Mangini might even make a fantastic DC with experience, but as a HC, he'll never be truly successful. John Gruden will be coaching the Browns one year from now.
I feel bad for any guy that puts in 15 hour days 7 days a week from July to January. They have no personal lives and have one of the highest divorce rates out of any profession.
And make, what, a couple million dollars a year to do it? F that. I'm not wasting my tears. Plus, there's always the fact that the sample size is miniscule compared to most other professions. If 10 NFL HCs get a divorce, that's ~30%. Considering there are clear douchebags like Bill Belichick in the league, I'd blame personality more than profession.
No freaking way. There's no way the Jets trade that 1 pick for a return specialist. We need a DE, a ROLB, more depth on the OL, probably more depth in the middle of the DL too before we think about doing anything else. What they really should spend the pick on in the perfect world is a ROLB who can rush the passer. Turn Bryan Thomas into quality depth in the front 7 and get on with dominating offenses in the NFL.
