If you're ever sad being a Jets fan, just envision trading for Sam Darnold, him sucking balls, and then out with a fractured scapula in his throwing arm. That takes the cake
USC QB's. Support them or flail about while they demonstrate (again and again) that USC doesn't develop NFL star QB's.
You left out the "exercising his $18.6 million guaranteed fifth-year option" part, right before the "him sucking balls" part.
The Jets didn't have to exercise the option. They could have kept him just to provide real competition in camp and let ZW sit for a bit if he wasn't completely ready to go. That would have given them two things that they have not had until Mike White did his thing: 1. A potential glut of young QB's with talent - if Darnold played well in the new system. 2. The opportunity to both sit Wilson at the start of the year and also have a credible threat to bench him with if he decided to play hero ball instead of learning the new system and working within it's constraints. People keep presenting this as an all-or-nothing scenario however it really had as many layers as an onion and the Jets just sold the onion instead of trying to unravel it. This leading directly to the situation we were in pre-Mike White, with a young QB rebelling against what the coach and OC wanted to do. How many times did Saleh have to say "boring ball" before Wilson actually decided to do what the Jets wanted him to do?
We got 3 draft picks for that turd. What would we have gotten if we had kept him this year? A bag of dirty jockstraps?
What would we have gotten? A much better entrance to the NFL for our #2 overall QB pick. That was much more valuable than a mid-2nd round pick and a couple of later picks.
We could have gotten that with Mike White AND we would still have those picks. And that mid second will be a high second. Mark my words.
Looks like Carolina may have already be thinking about moving on from Sam. So I suppose JD got back good compensation, considering. I for one was happy to move on from him! https://bleacherreport.com/articles...panthers-2022-qb1-job-amid-sam-darnold-injury Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
PJ Walker looking competent against the NFL’s fourth ranked defense yesterday wraps this whole we should’ve kept Sam argument up.
